This entry appears to be directly copied from http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/encyclopedia/c/ci/circumpolar_religion.htm , right down to the cross-referenced words. I'm reticent to be pushy before I even have a three-digit edit count to my name, but isn't this grounds for VfD?

Don't worry about your edit count. My name has a four-digit one and I've definitely found that it means less than one'd think. That said, it would be grounds to an immediate copyright violation notice and deletion in a week unless consent to use was acquired, but in this particular case the site has a 'content from Wikipedia' notice at the bottom. What with the GDFL license this happens a lot. --Kizor 13:00, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

This page was flagged as needing attention, but it looks to me like its only problem is that it's a stub. So for now, I'm taking off the attention notice, but anyone feel free to put it back, just give us a hint on this page how you think it could be improved, what kind of attention it needs, etc. Thanks. [edit] Merge?

Even though mythology and religion have their own separate articles on WP, I would still recommend integrating the stubs on Circumpolar mythology and Circumpolar religion. I don't see how they can be expanded segnificantly without having largely identical content. //Big Adamsky 14:28, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

For, as they are both stubs about closely related subjects which have very little information… but what would it be called? ~ Ghelæ talkcontribs 11:46, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Don't merge them. 'Traditional' circumpolar religion (largely animistic/shamanistic in nature) was influenced to a greater or lesser degree by the introduction of Christianity throughout the 19th/20th centuries. Many circumpolar inhabitants now practise a hybrid religion nominally termed 'Christianity' whilst incorporating elements of traditional Circumpolar beliefs. The extent to which circumpolar religion was altered by missionary activity depends largely on the TYPE of Christianity that was introduced into certain areas, the consistency of contact with missionaries, and the social, political and economic circumstances under which conversion took place. Could information of this sort be used be used to flesh out this page? Lavalamp20

Now this is perhaps just my opinion, but in a religion article the focus should be on the beliefs, customs, trends, any heirarchy or clerics and the core pantheon or god, a mythology article should be focused on the stories and folklore, and would have more of a concentration on figures with lots of stories but little actual cosmological importance. Thus two seperate articles is a good idea. Jztinfinity 20:50, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes this should not be merged with Mythology for the reasons stated above. Just as Norse Paganism and Norse Myhtology are seperate, so should be the case for Circumpolar Religion and Circumpolar Myhtology. Sigurd Dragon Slayer

I think they should be merged, and the history of the change from the traditional mythology to the current religion could be discussed within that one page. I just made a merger suggestion at Talk:Circumpolar mythology. Aleta 08:47, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

I support the merge of the two with the two aspects discerned stated by User:Jztinfinity in the newly merged article. -Kain Nihil 09:19, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
