Cinema for Peace is an international charity-gala and a platform for peace and tolerance, taking place annually at the Berlin International Film Festival, to the benefit of UNICEF and others.
Since its celebrated premier in 2002, Cinema for Peace has been regarded as the social high-point of the Berlin Film Festival, drawing broad national and international support. This support is reflected not only in the members of the Cinema for Peace international committee, which includes Ela Gandhi and Nobel Peace Prize winners Óscar Arias and Jody Williams, but also the attendance of socially-aware personalities such as Robert Altman, Donald Sutherland, Tim Robbins and George Clooney.
The hosts of Cinema for Peace have been Catherine Deneuve (2002), Roger Moore (2003), Christopher Lee, Liza Minnelli and Sir Peter Ustinov (2004), Susan Sarandon (2005), Richard Gere and Milla Jovovich (2006).
Aside from the objective to raise funds for selected aid projects, Cinema for Peace aims to engage the international film community and stress the special responsibility film-creative’s can have in the development of a more socially-aware, global population.
