Chunkappara is a small town in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala state, South India. Chunkappara is situated 26 km east of Thiruvalla town.

It does not own a great tradition. The place is believed to in the midst of Ponthanpuzha forest from centuries ago.

'St George High School Kottangal' is located in Chunkappara. The nearest railway station is 26 km.

It is the only independent place where people have access without the descrimination of cast, creed, colour, religion, age or sex.It is a hilly region with scenic beauty flowing through out springs

Kottangal,Perumpetty, Alapra, Manimala, Ponthanpuzha, Ranni, Erumeli, Vaipur, Ezhumatoor, Chalapally, are the neighbouring places of Chunkappara.

The St. Georges's Church at Chunkappara is one of the oldest Malankara Catholic church in Kerala, was constructed around 1950 AD. The feast in April lasts for seven days from 19th to 23th. Display of fire works in connection with the celebration is very attractive. Little Flower church is the Syrian Catholic church of Chunkappara. Feasts of St. Martin de Pores and St Kochu Thresia (Little Flower) are celebrated in the last week of November. The Kottangal Devi Temple is a pilgrim centre for Sabrimala Ayyappa devotees. Thacharikkal Sri Bhadrakali Temple, Alapra, situated 4 km east of Chunkappara is another important hindu religious centre.

Chunkappara is a developing town of the Kottangal Panchayat, Mallapally Thaluk. One of the oldest school here is the High school is St.George High School, Kottangal. It keeps academic standards. Has an english medium school named Christu Raja English medium school, which is run by the Malankara Catholic Church.

It is believed Chunkappara had forest path and there was a check post erected to collect taxes. The tax collectors used to sit beneath a huge rock and hence got the name Chunkappara(Chunkam means tax and Para means Rock). Elderly people say that the place will one day become Kanakappara (Golden Rock).

It is a beautiful place with a promising advancements in the localities here. Development here has come on a larger and faster pace as there are lots of Gulf Returnees and other successful businessmen out here.
