Christopher Joseph "Gus" Loria (b. July 9, 1960 in Newton, Massachusetts) is an American astronaut who was originally scheduled to fly on STS-113 as pilot, unfortunately he was grounded from his shuttle mission due to severe back injury, and was replaced by Paul Lockhart. Colonel Loria was subsequently the recipient of the coveted NASA Fellowship to the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. While at Harvard, Colonel Loria earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration in June of 2004, and was selected as a Fellow at the Center for Business and Government (a think tank) at the Kennedy School. Following Harvard, Colonel Loria served as the Deputy Chief Engineer for the Constellation Program at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.. During the fall of 2004, Colonel Loria's injuries were deemed inoperable and resulted in his being medically disqualified from space flight exploration missions. Colonel Loria requested assignment back to the operational forces of the Marine Corps where he served as the Inspector General for the 1st Marine Air Wing, Okinawa, Japan and presently serves as the Director of Operations (J3) for Cheyenne Mountain, NORAD. On November 10, 2007 he married Lieutenant Commander Jamie Ann Fraser, United States Navy.
