Christopher Hewett, (April 5, 1922 – August 3, 2001), was an English actor best known for his role as Lynn Belvedere on the ABC sitcom Mr. Belvedere.
Hewett was born in Worthing, Sussex, England.[1] He was educated by Jesuits at Wimbledon College in his native England after his father's death in a pontoon accident. He appeared on Broadway in the musicals My Fair Lady, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and Kean and in the play Sleuth, among others, and directed the 1960 Broadway revue From A to Z and the 1967 off-Broadway revival of the Rodgers and Hart musical By Jupiter.
Hewett portrayed Mr. Roarke's sidekick, Lawrence, on the final season of the original Fantasy Island series and the effeminate stage director Roger DeBris in Mel Brooks's 1968 film comedy The Producers.
Hewett was a devout Roman Catholic[citation needed], a veteran of the Royal Air Force, and a lifelong bachelor.
He was a diabetic and his death on August 3, 2001 was a consequence of complications brought on by that disease. Hewett was 79 years old.
He was a descendant of the Irish political agitator Daniel O'Connell[citation needed].
