Christophe Bertrand was born on 1981. After earning gold medals for piano and chamber music at the Strasbourg Conservatoire (C.N.R.) (studies with Laurent CABASSO, Michèle RENOUL, Armand ANGSTER), he performs and records with Ensemble Accroche-Note and Ensemble In Extremis (of which he is a co-founder). He collaborates with composers such as Ivan Fedele, Pascal DUSAPIN, Michael JARRELL, Mark ANDRE, Wolfgang RIHM, among others.

He studies composition since 1996, under the supervision of Ivan FEDELE at the C.N.R. of Strasbourg, and in 2000 he obtains his diploma in composition with distinction at the unanimity of the jury. He attends the Cursus Annuel de Composition et d'Informatique Musicale (2000-2001), at the IRCAM, where he works with Philippe HUREL, Tristan MURAIL, Brian FERNEYHOUGH, and Jonathan HARVEY.

His compositions, conducted among others by Pierre Boulez, Jonathan NOTT, Hannu LINTU, Marc ALBRECHT have been performed by prestigious ensembles and soloists :

Ensemble Intercontemporain, Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, Arditti Quartet, Accroche Note, Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, Court-Circuit, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Ensemble Aleph, Ensemble Intégrales, Divertimento Ensemble, Ensemble Musicatreize, Mandelring Quaret, Avanti!, etc ; Garth KNOX, Juliette HUREL, Jan MICHIELS, Marc COPPEY, etc.

His compositions have been heard :

- in France : Festival Musica, IRCAM, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Festival Agora, Centre Georges Pompidou, Salle Olivier Messiaen de la Maison de Radio France, etc.

- in Germany : Beethovenfest Bonn, Ultraschall-Festival à Berlin, Internationale Ferienkurse in Darmstadt, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk

- in Switzerland : Lucerne Festival

- in Belgium : Ars Musica in Brussels

- in Italy : Festival Traiettorie in Parma, Rondo-Milano, Spoleto Festival

- in Holland : Gaudeamus Festival in Amsterdam

- but also in the USA (San Francisco), in United Kingdom (Manchester), in Slovenia (Ljubljana), etc. and on different radios, in France (France-Musique) and abroad.

He has been commissioned by Ensemble Intercontemporain, Lucerne Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, the Auditorium du Louvre, the André Boucourechliev Foundation, les Musicales in Colmar, the Radio Berlin-Brandeburg, the French Ministry of Culture, Accroche Note, Musicatreize, the Festival Rendez-Vous Musique Nouvelle, etc. but also by several privates patrons.

He earns the Prix de la Musique de l'Académie des Marches de l'Est in 2001and the Earplay Prize 2002.

In 2007, he earns the SACEM Hervé DUGARDIN prize, and the André CAPLET prize from the Académie des Beaux-Arts (Institut de France).

He has just been selected by the Académie de France à Rome to be in residence at the Villa Médicis in Rome during 18 months.
