[edit] Crest and Motto

Crest

The Star

The symbol is taken from the words of the Scriptures: "And those who have taught many people to do what is right will shine like stars forever". (Daniel 12:3). The star was a reminder to the Christian Brothers of their duty as Christian teachers - a commitment now taken on by lay staff. It is a symbol of education and enlightenment and reminds all of us that an education in a Christian community can lead us to an eternal life with our loving God.

The Open Book -(Symbolised by two parallel lines)

The open book is a symbol of learning and reflects one of the primary aims of the College. It also represents the ideal of openness - to learning more about oneself, about others and about God.

The Crown

This is a very powerful symbol of the importance of Mary, the mother of God in our lives. When the term "Queen of Heaven" is used in reference to Mary, it reflects, an awareness that Mary was chosen from all women to be one to give birth to Jesus. She is a model for all of love, commitment and devotion to her role.

Motto

"Auspice Christo”

The school motto "Auspice Christo - Guided by Christ" points to the foundation of its Catholic faith and education mission as a Catholic secondary College. The motto proclaims publicly the belief that Jesus Christ is the compass for negotiating the journey of our lives. Within each of us the Risen Christ lives and is inviting us to be open to Christ's message of love, justice, forgiveness, service and compassion.

[edit] House Colours

Christian Brothers' College Burwood's homeroom classes and sport teams are divided by colours, which are nominated by significant names:

  • Red for Gadigal (named after the Gadigal people, whom once were situated on the land the school is built on)
  • Yellow for Moylan (after Br. Brian Moylan)
  • Green for O'Neill (named after the first principal)
  • Blue for Delany (after one of the school's principals)
