Chris Baker (born November 18, 1979) is an American football tight end for the New York Jets of the NFL.

[edit] Early Career
He attended Michigan State University. He made 47 consecutive starts at Michigan State and had a stretch of 24 consecutive games with at least one reception. He also set school career records for TE with 133 receptions, 1,705 yards (12.8 avg) and 13 TDs, topping the previous mark of 107 catches set by Mark Brammer from 1976-1979. He was also a AP all-state first-team selection in 1996 at Saline (Mich.) HS.

Baker was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round (88th overall) of the 2002 NFL draft. He scored his first NFL touchdown in his first postseason game in which the Jets defeated the Indianapolis Colts in an AFC Wild Card game in 2002. He then in 2004 scored his first regular season touchdown in a win over the Miami Dolphins. He became the first Jet since Johnny Mitchell to record a 100 yard receiving performance with seven receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown in a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. During the 2005 season, he served as a backup to Doug Jolley until he broke his leg which ended his season. He also with a postseason high of five receptions and 68 yards was the highest yardage accumulated since Mickey Shuler had 116 yards in 1981. He was named the Jets Offensive Player of the Week after tying his season high with four receptions for 39 yards. In a game against the Chiefs in 2007, in which he didn't record a reception broke a career-long 25-game Regular Season streak with at least one reception. He caught three passes for a season-high 52 yards, and surpassed 1,000 career receiving yards, in a game against the New York Giants. He also in 2007, caught a 1-yard touchdown pass in a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, giving him a franchise-record seven 1-yard TD catches in his career. He established a carer high in 2007, with 41 receptions and 409 yards. Baker has shown anger towards his contract and wants a raise, and thinks his role is uncertain after the Jets traded up to draft Dustin Keller, in the 2008 NFL Draft and the signing of Bubba Franks. He has even predicted that he will not be a Jet this season mainly for the teams' refusal to talk about his contract and the team lying to him about his contract. The Jets even fined Baker $3,000 for missing a minicamp treatment session although he did show up at minicamp. [1] '
