Chorlton-cum-Hardy railway station was a station on the Cheshire Lines Committee route between Manchester Central and Stockport Tiviot Dale. It was situated near the junction of Albany Road with Wilbraham Road and served the Manchester suburb of Chorlton-cum-Hardy. The station opened on 1 January 1880 and closed on 2 January 1967, though the line remained opened to freight until the 1980s.
The station has since been demolished and in its place stands a Morrisons (originally Safeway) supermarket and car-park. The old track-way still exists to the side of the supermarket. The trackway leaving the site heading towards the old Alexandra Park railway station and Fallowfield railway station is now a cyclepath managed by Sustrans.
There is a proposal to extend Manchester Metrolink through Chorlton-cum-Hardy, with the Chorlton-cum-Hardy stop occupying the site of the former train station[1]. This extension would replace most, if not all, of the existing cycle path.
The station was mentioned in the 1964 song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann.
