Choctaw is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States, and a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. The population was 9,377 at the 2000 census. While Choctaw is located in the geographic center of Eastern Oklahoma County, it enjoys relative prosperity on the fringes of the urbanized eastern edge of Oklahoma City.

In 1950 Choctaw was in an agricultural area. It had a population of 355 in that year.[3]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 27.1 square miles (70.2 km²), of which, 27.1 square miles (70.1 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.07%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 9,377 people, 3,450 households, and 2,808 families residing in the city. The population density was 346.4 people per square mile (133.7/km²). There were 3,617 housing units at an average density of 133.6/sq mi (51.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 88.80% White, 1.64% African American, 3.70% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.85% from other races, and 4.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.79% of the population.
There were 3,450 households out of which 35.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.0% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.6% were non-families. 16.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $49,291, and the median income for a family was $55,437. Males had a median income of $36,540 versus $27,914 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,041. About 3.7% of families and 5.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.0% of those under age 18 and 6.1% of those age 65 or over.
