The China men's national volleyball team represents PR China in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches. The team once took part in the Summer Olympics, finishing in eighth place at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. The leading volleyball nations in Asia are Japan and, to a lesser extent, South Korea.
Volleyball officially was introduced in China in 1910 and the Chinese national team has been participated in international competitions for more than 45 years. Since 1956, China has taken part in eleven World Championships, with its best results being recorded in Italy (1978) and Argentina (1982) where the squad finished in seventh place.
The team also placed ninth three times, in France (1956), the Soviet Union (1962) and Czechoslovakia (1966). In 2002 in Argentina, China was 13th as a new rebuilding phase got off the ground.
China took part in the opening edition of the top-class Volleyball World League in 1990 and regularly participated between 1992 and 1997, finishing sixth in 1996.
