China Lee (born Margaret Lee September 2, 1942) is an American model and actress. She was Playboy's Playmate of the Month for the August 1964 issue. Her centerfold was photographed by Pompeo Posar. She was the first Asian American Playmate. According to her Playmate profile, her name is pronounced "chee-na" to rhyme with "Tina".
Lee was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to parents who were born in China and were married before they emigrated to the United States. She is the youngest of eight siblings. One of her brothers, Harry Lee, was the popular and longtime sheriff of Jefferson Parish, a suburb of New Orleans, before he passed away in October 2007. Of the other three brothers and four sisters are Lorraine Lee, Virginia Lee, Mai Lee, Davis Lee, Frank Lee, and the Late Helen Lee.
Lee worked as a hairstylist and waitress and Playboy Club Bunny before her Playboy appearance. She was a "Training Bunny," which required her to travel to different Playboy Clubs to teach prospective Bunnies the ropes.
She appeared in the end of the Woody Allen movie What's Up, Tiger Lily? doing a striptease.
She was married to Mort Sahl, the Montreal-born comedian. They divorced in 1991. Mort Sahl said his and China's only son Mort Sahl, Jr. died March 27, 1996.[1]
