The modern history of Chilean beer (Spanish, cerveza chilena) dates back to the 19th century. Despite of having a long tradition of chicha drinking European beer was first introduced the years after Chile gained independence.[1] With the arrival of Germans immigrants around 1850 massive production begun. By the end of the 19th century beer was consumed all over the country. Beer consumption and culture had then spread across the country from cities such as Valdivia and Valparaíso that hosted a lot of immigrants. As of 1997 Chile has a consumption of 28 liters per year per capita.[1]
