The Chikugo River (筑後川, Chikugo-gawa?) is called "Chikushijirō" as a nickname. This river flows through Kumamoto, Ōita, Fukuoka and Saga prefectures in Japan. It rises under the Mount Aso, is 143 km long and is the longest river of Kyūshū. It enters to the Ariake Bay.
It is very important to local agriculture as it is used to irrigate some 400 km² of rice fields on the Tsukushi Plain. A walk by this river shows us many different faces during the year. In April you can find dandelions, horsetails and so on by the banks of the river. On 5 August every year, near Kurume city, a famous fireworks festival is held. In the autumn, you will find beautiful cosmos flowers blooming.
