Chi Hoa

Chi Hoa (Vietnamese: Nha tu Chi Hoa) is a large prison in the 10th district of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Vietnam. Its octagonal construction is an example of Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon design in use.
Chi Hoa was built by the French colonizers where the city outskirts used to be. During the Vietnam War, it was used to imprison Viet Cong members as well as other prisoners. The prison still serves as the main correctional facility in present-day Ho Chi Minh city. Today it is used for temporary custody of arrested criminals.
According to urban legend, the bodies of eight virgin girls were buried at each angle of the building, so no prisoner could escape from it.[citation needed]
