The Chesapeake and Albemarle Railroad (AAR reporting marks CA) is a short-line railroad operated by the North Carolina and Virginia Railroad and is owned by RailAmerica. The C&A started operations on April 2, 1990. They have 82 miles of track from Chesapeake, Virginia to Edenton, North Carolina. C&A interchanges with both Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation. The railroad was part of the now defunct Norfolk Southern Railroad, which continued south crossing the Albemarle sound and onto Mackeys Ferry and Plymouth.
