Chekiang Province, Republic of China or Zhejiang Province, Republic of China (1951 - 1955), was the government-in-exile established by the Republic of China Government in Dachen Islands (Tachen Islands), the east coast of Mainland Zhejiang Province, in 1951. But it was abolished after the Kuomintang Army and residents were evacuated from Dachen to Taiwan in 1955.[2]

After the Chinese Civil War, the Kuomintang-led Republic of China government lost its control in Mainland China and only held several east coast islands of Mainland Zhejiang Province, including Dachen, Yijiangshan, Pishan, Taumenshan, Yushan and Nanji.[3] The county governments withdrawn to the islands from the mainland included seven counties, Wenling, Linhai, Huangyan, Pinyang, Sanmen, Leqing and Yuhuan. Chiang Kai-shek, the late President of the Republic of China, appointed Hu Zongnan, the General of the Kuomintang Army, to establish the “Government of Chekiang Province” in Dachen Islands on September 1951. Its purpose was to fight against the mainland occupied by the People's Liberation Army.

In 1952, the Chekiang Government reorganized the seven counties into four counties, and they were Wenling, Linhai, Pinyang and Yuhuan. Sanmen county was changed to "Yushan Administrative Bureau". "Zhuyu Administrative Bureau" was also established. These administrative bureaus were originally used as the "special region" for direct-trading with Mainland China, but they were abolished one year later.

In 1953, the Chekiang Government office moved to Taiwan.

In 1955, the People's Liberation Army conquered Yijiangshan. The Republic of China evacuated army and residents from Dachen and Nanji to Taiwan with the help of United States Seventh Fleet. The Chekiang Government in Taiwan was abolished. And the People's Republic of China, led by the Chinese Communist Party, successfully occupied the entire Zhejiang Province.[4][5]
