[edit] Midnight Oil

I am pretty sure I saw McMahon sitting in with the Australian rock band Midnight Oil in 1993 or 1994's WOMAD festival. Can someone with more knowledge about his work with Midnight Oil add something about this to the article? Badagnani 08:01, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Overview information about McMahon's involvement with Midnight Oil plus 1986 NT tour added tobalwin 05:10, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Peter Carolan

Did Peter Carolan play the hammered dulcimer or the Appalachian (lap) dulcimer? It's difficult to tell via a Google search. Badagnani 08:12, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Every website seems to say that he plays keyboards; none says he plays dulcimer. Where did this information come from? Badagnani 08:23, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Dulcimer information added via email reply from Carolan also see clipping reference 7 tobalwin 05:11, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo?

Can someone find a good photo of McMahon? Maybe from a CD booklet? None of the photos on his personal site or the didjeribone site are very good and Wikipedia allows for the uploading and use of photos that are part of CD booklets, or from the artist's website for promotional purposes. Badagnani 08:36, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Have email permission from Bob King to use his "Let The Dog Out" back cover photo for this article but the one currently uploaded is more dynamic and fits into the space better tobalwin 05:15, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, you could insert it in another section, then. Photos can go anywhere in the article. Badagnani 08:43, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Its basically a horizontal version of the same photo besides it will up the kilobite count and it think the text is more important. There's lots of McMahon photos available for anyone after such [via a Google image search] but not much biography info which is why it was submitted.tobalwin 14:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] References

The new version of "Notes" section makes a couple of mistakes: 1) the Wikipedia article was not written by one person, but, as almost all Wikipedia articles, are collaborations between a number of editors; 2) the References have been converted from the standard Wikipedia format to some other format that is not standard. Hope these things can be fixed. Badagnani 04:22, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Newbie glitchs - apology Should point out that a lot of other writers contributed indirectly via the dozens of press articles used as references. I just happen to have a lot of clipping information availble on this person. tobalwin 05:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Two Blacktowns

One Blacktown is the City (City of Blacktown), and one is a small suburb within that city (Blacktown, New South Wales). Confusingly, Blacktown and Seven Hills are both suburbs within the City of Blacktown. Badagnani 16:11, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Think I'll just go for "near Sydney"--tobalwin 06:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

It's possible, then, that both McMahon and his friend both lived in Seven Hills, which is one neighborhood/suburb within the City of Blacktown. Badagnani 08:44, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Feedback Interview

Managed to have a one hour phone conversation with Charlie McMahon on Aug 16 and he found no major inaccuracies in the article [which was a relief].He did note a couple of minor mistakes that had been journalist mistakes in the original paper clippings - these I have corrected apart for a problem with the 1973 Aquarius festival encounter where his memory seems to be at odds with Peter Carolans. I have asked Carolan to let me know his version of the incident and will edit this section [once I have Carolan's information] to take both memories into account. tobalwin 09:29, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Great -- this shows that you work harder on this article than most Wikipedians, who are more content to criticize others' articles rather than work hard on their own. Good job on a job well done. Badagnani 22:13, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Update done --tobalwin 10:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article Length Comment

I have noted the reminder about article length but feel as the material presented here still comes 2 kilobites within the 32 kilobite limit, don't think it needs to be hacked around, at this stage anyhow but I will do some internal editing if information on any important situations not covered is submitted by other editors. tobalwin 09:29, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Birth Date

McMahon recently confimed his full birth date is June 19 1951. This information could be added to the leader section of this article. tobalwin 14:41, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion and Additions

Deleted the Music Brainz link as it just referred back to this Wikpeida article and McMahon's own site. Added links to Video of "Land of The Lightning Brothers" and video of the "Ochre Dusk" dance suite both unavailable on cd. The last link is to the [Australian] National Film And Sound Archive data base search engine which holds and sells the Ochre Dusk video.--tobalwin 13:13, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Unfortunately I just discovered that contary to the information on the NSASA web site they do not sell copies to members of the general public so had to delete that link. However "The Lightning Brothers" DVD is currently available as I have just received a copy of it in the mail--tobalwin 10:20, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Photo Uploaded

In the absence of anything better for the time being [pity that great b/w photo had to go] I've uploaded a recent happy snap I took of McMahon. Does anyone read and write Russian? It would be great to get permission to use one of those Russian tour photos from the Churinga people [see "Google Image /Charlie McMahon /Churinga"] tobalwin 19:09, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

You can use babelfish.altavista.com to translate Russian. Badagnani 19:11, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Ah but is it understandable to the other party? Any time i've tried to read a babelfish translated sentence it scans like a randomly cut up ransom note and i'd have to translate most of the Churinga site to find out where the email link is.tobalwin 16:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

I missed that the photo had to be removed. Any reason why? Has someone asked Charlie if his photo can be returned (being the one on the photo)? Didgeweb 15:41, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

There's been a big change at Wikipeida lately regarding using copyrighted images without direct permission of the copyright owner [of the photo not the subject of the photo]probably. Uploading an image now requires specific copyright declarations which I suppose is why the b/w photo had to go but it would have been preferable for the removalist to have signaled their intention in the discussion section first. I couldn't find any record of when it went or who took it off. tobalwin 16:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I've uploaded a photo of Charlie that I took a couple of years ago at a Belgium festival:
. Have I added the right text, owner things etc? When yes, it can be used on Charlie's page. Cheers Didgeweb 17:40, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Great photo - because it is of such higher quality then the Pine Creek one could you swap the positions of those two photos [with description]? tobalwin 15:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Done. Badagnani 17:36, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Much appreciated. Have uploaded a link to an extensive illustrated McMahon discography pagetobalwin (talk) 03:32, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Links

Currently the didjeribone.net site is off-line due to a severe server crash at the hoster. I hope to have the site online again in a few days. No need to adjust the link on the main page :-) Didgeweb (talk) 12:07, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

On-line again Didgeweb (talk) 04:42, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
