Charlotte Zwerin

Charlotte Zwerin (born Charlotte Mitchell on August 15, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan; died January 22, 2004 in Manhattan) was a documentary film director and editor best known for work concerning artists or musicians. Although she also did films concerning other subjects.

She studied at Wayne State University and established a film society there. After this she moved to New York City where she worked with Albert and David Maysles. Among her notable works with them is Salesman and Gimme Shelter (documentary).[1] This work gained them some notoriety due to it filming the stabbing death of Meredith Hunter. She later did work on her own, most notably Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser. She died of lung cancer in 2004. She was the ex-wife of jazz trombonist Mike Zwerin.[2]
