Charlie Pierce

Charles P. Pierce, otherwise known as Charlie Pierce, is an American sportswriter. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on December 28, 1953, he was raised as a Roman Catholic (according to his own statements on Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!) and became a graduate of Marquette University. During his life, Pierce spent many summers at Wendell Philips Parker Nature Training School where his father taught eager kids weather and other subjects. Charlie enjoyed playing volleyball, Mr. Tucker's Trailblazer's class and Mr. Feer's rendition of Waltzing Matilda. Pierce currently writes for the Boston Globe Sunday magazine, a position he has held since April 2002. He has also written for the The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Esquire and GQ magazines, and the e-zine Slate as well as the Media Matters blog Altercation, hosted by historian/pundit Eric Alterman. Pierce also makes appearances on radio; he is a frequent contributor to NPR programs Only A Game and Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! He also represented the Globe on several occasions on ESPN's Around the Horn.
