Chang Yuchun (1330-1369) (常遇春) was one of the founding generals of the Ming Dynasty. His style names were (zi) Boren (伯仁), and (hao) Yanheng (燕衡), and was of Han ethnicity.[citation needed] He was born in what is now Anhui province, Huaiyuan county. He joined the revolutionary army in 1355, crossed the Yangtze river with Zhu Yuanzhang (朱元璋) and was very effective in several major battles, earning him the position of supreme commander. Two years after successfully overthrowing the Yuan dynasty, Chang Yuchun fell seriously sick and died. Legend has it that in combat he was as effective as ten thousand soldiers, earning him the nickname 'Chang ten thousand'.[1]
