Challenge-Brownsville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Yuba County, California, United States. The population was 1,069 at the 2000 census.

Challenge-Brownsville is located at (39.472574, -121.265028)[1].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.7 square miles (25.0 km²), all of it land.
[edit] Demographics
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,069 people, 491 households, and 322 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 110.6 people per square mile (42.7/km²). There were 580 housing units at an average density of 60.0/sq mi (23.2/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.61% White, 0.37% African American, 1.78% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.47% from other races, and 4.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.81% of the population.
There were 491 households out of which 17.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.4% were non-families. 29.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.65.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 17.6% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 29.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 51 years. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $27,037, and the median income for a family was $36,607. Males had a median income of $32,353 versus $18,889 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,917. About 16.2% of families and 16.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.8% of those under age 18 and 6.3% of those age 65 or over.

In the state legislature Challenge-Brownsville is located in the 4th Senate District, represented by Republican Sam Aanestad, and in the 3rd Assembly District, represented by Republican Rick Keene. Federally, Challenge-Brownsville is located in California's 2nd congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +13[3] and is represented by Republican Wally Herger.
