Catrin Finch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Catrin Finch

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Catrin Anna Finch (born 1980) is a Welsh harpist born in Llanon, Ceredigion.

In 2000, she performed at London's Wigmore Hall, and in the same year she was appointed official harpist to the Prince of Wales. It was the first time the royal family had accorded such an honour since the reign of Queen Victoria.[1] Her youth and dynamic playing style has led her to be described by audiences thus; 'Your... arrangements, enthusiasm and sheer startling talent left us completely awestruck. You have reinvented the harp and allowed it to be an instrument of today'.

In 2004 she played a pink electric harp at the 60th birthday celebrations of composer Karl Jenkins.

In recognition of her musical achievements, she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth in 2006, as well as Honorary Fellowships from the University of Wales in Bangor, and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2005.

In 2003, Finch married Hywel Wigley, son of politician Dafydd Wigley and prominent harpist Elinor Bennett, her former teacher. The couple live in Gwaelod-y-Garth, near Cardiff. On 28 December 2006, Finch gave birth to a baby girl, Ana Gwen.[2]
