This is the follow-up to The Behemoth's first title "Alien Hominid,". Castle Crashers seems to be inspired by such sidescrollers incorporating z-axis movement of classic beat 'em up games like The Simpsons Arcade Game and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games, but containing a much deeper skill-based combat system than either. The gameplay of this title is similar to that of Behemoth creators Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp's flash-based game Dad 'n Me.[3]
There are four unnamed knights that one can choose from to play as, each with their own elemental power:
- Blue (ice)
- Green (poison)
- Red (lightning)
- Orange (fire)
One can also have a single other weapon, either a bow and arrow, boomerang, or shovel (used to dig for treasure). Some levels will feature rideable creatures ranging from fawns to two legged crocodiles. After beating a level boss, the knights will turn on each other for the hand of the maiden-in-distress.
[edit] Trivia
- The Behemoth removed Castle Crashers from the Slamdance Guerrila Games Competition as a protest of Super Columbine Massacre RPG! being dropped from the competition.
- The final product may have a soundtrack made up of user created music submitted to Newgrounds' Audio Portal.[4]
