User talk:Carcharoth/Polbot3 trial run

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One important testing scenario was left out of this test: None of the people with special chars in the name actually had to be changed. (They only had to be written to the logfile.) So I added Viktor Kožený to the list, making it 32 entries. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Analysis of results

  • The bot made the 68 edits listed here. You linked to that above, but I'm limiting the list just to these 68. Some are repeated, as you were testing things out, so it would have made less than 68 edits in a real run. It actually only touched 14 pages out of the 32. Carcharoth 21:12, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Yeah, I wish there had been an easy way for me to link which changes were "live" and which were just "tests". – Quadell (talk) (random) 03:41, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The bot correctly identified 1 of the 32 pages (Jones Baronets) as a "non-bio" (not a biographical article), due to use of the non-bio tag. It did, however, treat four pages as biographies that were not biographies: Barlaam and Josaphat, System of a Down, TexA.N.S., and List of theoretical physicists. As a human, I could tell that these are not biographical pages (they all involve multiple people), but the bot uses a list of pages transcluding {{WPBiography}}, and this perpetuates human errors. The original errors arise due to incorrect application of the WPBiography template or failure to use the non-bio tag. In essence, this means that the WPBiography transclusion list is not as 'clean' as we had imagined. I suspect most of the false positives are lists or groups (mainly music groups). Most of the non-bio articles don't need and don't have sortkeys, so the bot usually just passes those by in terms of its sortkey function. However, it did incorrectly add Category:Possibly living people to those four articles, and was correctly reverted each time by another editor. Conclusion: Cleaner list needed for the birth/death category work. Current list should be OK for the sortkey work. Carcharoth 21:25, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • I'm not sure what you mean in your conclusion. – Quadell (talk) (random) 03:41, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
      • What I mean is that the list the bot will be working from is the list of pages with the WPBiography template transcluded on their talk pages. It seems that people have put the template on talk pages for musical groups and lists of people. Hence the problems with adding "possibly living people", which just makes the bot look stupid. What is needed is to 'clean' the list by going through it and removing the WPBiography tag, or putting non-bio=yes. Alternatively, you could trust people cleaning up the 'possibly living' category to not mind cleaning this up, or you could replace the "add category" function with a "make a list of these articles" function, and the list can be inspected by a human. Now when you look at the sortkeys, the lists and music groups usually don't have any listas or DEFAULTSORT, as expected, so the bot won't try and add listas or DEFAULTSORT, but will just list the data. And humans inspecting that data should realise that these aren't biographical articles. So the bot effectively ignores these lists and music groups when carrying out its sortkey function, so that isn't a concern. The incorrect addition of categories is a concern, which is why I suggest just gathering the data and letting a human check things before getting the bot to add categories. Is that any clearer? Carcharoth 09:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
        • Yes, thanks. I think it would be best if the bot just logged where there's a WPBio tag and no living/death cats, so that a human can decide whether to add CAT:PLP or remove WPBio. – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The bot performed as expected for the addition of DEFAULTSORT and listas sortkeys. It was conservative and only made changes when all sortkeys agreed or only DEFAULTSORT or only listas was present. It made 10 such changes, of which 3 were different to the correct human action. In each of those three cases, the bot perpetuated human error: Yi I should be sorted as "Yi I" and not "I, Yi"; Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah should be sorted "Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah" and not "bi-Amr Allah, Al Hakim"; and a human looking at Ecumenical Patriarch Nikephoros I of Constantinople would notice that the article title has the spelling "Nikephorus", whereas the DEFAULTSORT spelling is "Nicephorus", and the human would tidy this up first before adding the listas parameter. Conclusion: The presence of human error in existing sortkeys is inevitable, and not something that the bot should worry about. The bot performed as expected here. Carcharoth 21:46, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The bot failed to preserve some of the special characters in Zoran Đinđić, both in the title and the listas value. Carcharoth 21:52, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Well, sort of. Somewhere, some special characters got lost -- either in how the bot wrote to a text file, or in how that text file was read in my local text editor, or in how I cut-and-pasted the text into Wikipedia. It had no problems with the characters when writing to files, however, which is the most important bit. – Quadell (talk) (random) 03:41, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The bot failed to add "living=no" to the WPBiography template for Robert E. Lee, though I am not certain if this was ever part of its design. Carcharoth 21:54, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • It turns out that "living=no" doesn't mean anything in the WPBio tag. This tag only looks for "living=yes". Having "living=no" is the same as having "living=xyzzy", or not including the living parameter at all. That's why the bot doesn't add living=no. – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The bot failed to detect the absence of birth and/or death categories in Tetricus I (year of death unknown is categorised), Laura DiDio (year of birth unknown is categorised) and Philip Bußmann, though I am not certain if this was ever part of its design. A human would add one of the "year of birth unknown" categories to Tetricus I and Philip Bußmann. Laura DiDio is actually fine - I was in error to say that it was lacking a birth/death category. Carcharoth 22:02, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • The bot only looks for death cats, not birth cats. – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
  • There was one other spelling inconsistency, with Isaac Komnenos of Cyprus having the category piping of "Comnenus, Isaac". This is something a human should spot, but is harder for a bot to recognise (unless you get it to check the article title to see if the sortkey components are found within the article title). Carcharoth 22:13, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • I think it's best if the bot just notes this in the log, and lets a human deal with it. – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The logged data was what was expected, and will be extremely helpful. It was possible to quickly select the required sortkey from the options given, and (hopefully) this can then be passed back to the bot to enter DEFAULTSORT and listas sortkeys. Carcharoth 22:17, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Overall conclusions

  • The bot analysed 32 pages, edited 14 pages, and logged data or absence of data from 21 pages.
  • Due to previous human error, it incorrectly labelled four pages with Category:Possibly living people.
  • It filled in DEFAULTSORT for 6 pages (though 2 of those perpetuated human error).
  • It filled in listas for 4 pages (though 1 of those perpetuated human error).

In other words, the sortkey function works as intended, but the category function failed because the list is not clean enough. Carcharoth 22:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestions

  • Unless a cleaner list is found, change the funtionality so that the bot creates a list of pages for "Possibly living" and "living people", so this can be checked by a human, rather than adding the categories directly.
  • Proceed with the sortkey standardizing and data logging in small batches of several hundred, and continue to review and improve the bot's performance.
  • Consider the best way for humans to process the log files and pass them back to a bot with the correct sortkey indicated or entered.

That should be enough for now. Carcharoth 22:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

I think all three are excellent suggestions. I'll do that. – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Final thought

  • Humans shouldn't try and run Turing tests. I added a blank "listas" to the WPBiography template at Talk:Alan Turing, but forgot that the differences in the DEFAULTSORT and persondata name meant that the bot would not attempt to add any listas value. Just out of interest, what would it have done? Carcharoth 22:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • The bot removes "listas=[blank]" before adding "listas=[sortname]". :-) – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] logging

Alan Turing|lv=no|la=|ds=Turing, Alan|pn=Turing, Alan Mathison|cp=
Janet Baker|lv=yes|la=Baker, Janet|ds='''Baker, Janet'''|pn=|cp=Baker, Janet
Does the above make sense? The bold (or whatever flag works best) indicates data added by the bot. The blank entries are there to keep things tidy and in columns. Would this be possible? Polbot is a rather busy bot, and I'd prefer to work from log files, rather than her contributions list, though I would still refer back to that as well. Carcharoth 23:29, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Also, if you do decide to separate out the living/birth/death category thing from the sortkey stuff, then obviously the lv parameter can get dropped. If you keep them, I'd suggest adding output for bc (birth category), dc (death category) and lc (living category), and get the bot to check the categories for "XXXX births", "XXXX deaths" (though note that some birth and death categories involve decades, not years, so just check for "birth" and "death" in the categories), "Living people", "Possibly living people", "Year of birth unknown", "Year of birth missing" and "Year of birth missing (living people)", and the corresponding death categories. If all that comes up blank, you can safely assume the article needs flagging for attention. The output file, using the above examples, would be:
Alan Turing|lv=no|bc=y|dc=y|lc=n|la=|ds=Turing, Alan|pn=Turing, Alan Mathison|cp=
Janet Baker|lv=yes|bc=y|dc=n|lc=y|la=Baker, Janet|*ds=Baker, Janet|pn=|cp=Baker, Janet
(I've changed the "bot made an edit" flag from the bold wiki tags to an asterisk instead.)
What do you think? Carcharoth 23:41, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
This is some fantastic feedback. I like the suggested change to the logfile. I hadn't considered "1880s births" or "14th century deaths". Your analysis over at your subpage was very helpful as well. I'll comment more fully tomorrow, insha'Allah. – Quadell (talk) (random) 03:05, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

I like using "lv*=yes" to indicate that the "yes" was added. It's easier to search on when parsing the log. I also like adding blank columns like you mention. Do you think the bot should handle birth information? It currently doesn't. – Quadell (talk) (random) 13:01, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

I think birth information would be helpful. It would be good to make the categories of people with missing/unknown birth information more comprehensive. See if you can incorporate that and recognise all the variant categories, and then maybe another trial run will be needed. Will you need to go back to BAG, or are small trial runs OK for what they've said so far? I think we only need to go back when you want to present the bot with expanded capabilities, and fully ironed-out bugs, and ready to go. One thing I will say, is that I don't think letting it loose on all 350,000 at once will ever really be an option. I think the results will always need reviewing. Hopefully it will only change about 1 in 5 pages, so you could do batches of 1000 a day and have a workgroup briefly review the ~200 pages that it changes, and increase if the number of errors is small enough not to overwhelm its supervisors! (Processing the much larger amount of data from the logs where it can't decide on a DEFAULTSORT value is a much larger task - and would be done separately). If I can get enough volunteers through the Biography WikiProject, then supervising the standardising of DEFAULTSORT and listas should be fairly painless. If you can get up to 5000 a day, then 5 people checking 200 each (ie. 1000 from 5000) a day will take 70 days, or 2-3 months. That's about the same amount of effort being put into the current assessment drive. I wonder what the best way is to organising the output in a form that would be easy for people to check? • My conclusion is that this looks very good, with some minor things still to fix. It is still having problems with musical groups, thinking they are people, but maybe you could fix that by having the bot look for "musician-work-group=yes" in the WPBiography template. Hopefully that will eliminate most of these problems. That would include both groups and individual musicians. The other thing is that the bot is still adding the "living" category when I thought the idea was to just provide a list of possible living people, and then get a human to eliminate the music groups. The other thing is that not all the blank columns are there. Looking at the entry for Barlaam and Josaphat, you have four blank columns (lv, la, ds, pn), but you fail to do blank columns for bc, dc and cp. I did also spot a couple of human errors it duplicated, such as "listas = Scotland, William I of"! But that should all come out in the wash. Let me know when you are ready for another 100. I need to actually go back over the 32 and 100 and make sure all the mistakes have been corrected. We don't want to leave any mess behind us! Carcharoth 16:39, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
  1. Yeah, the bad data for music groups is bad. I'm not sure what to do about it though. If I leave out the "musician-work-group" ones, then we exclude bios of individual musicians. The best solution is to add non-bio to band articles, but people aren't doing that. I'm inclined to leave this as-is, but I'm open to discussing it more.
  2. Regarding "living people", the bot used to do two things: add "Category:Possibly living people" when it couldn't find any indication whether the person was living or dead; and add "Category:Living people" when the WPBio says "living=yes" and nothing contradicted it. I took out the first function because of too many false positives, but I left the second function in. Is the second function causing problems?
  3. bc, dc, and cp can have multiple values. An article might have "Category:1960 births" and "Category:1961 births", and I'd want to list them both in my summary. Or it might alphabetize one way in one category, and another way in another. If there are no category pipes, or no birth or death catgories, I just leave that out. What would you like it to do? – Quadell (talk) (random) 11:47, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
(1) Possibly add a new parameter for the bot to list: "musician-work-group=", and leave blank if not there, but put yes if it is there. Of course, this will lead to most of them having "musician-work-group=" as blank (ie. not there), but that is better than the current situation. Once the data is there, it can be manipulated and filtered to list all articles with "musician-work-group=yes" that have blank bc and dc (ie. no birth or death categories). These will almost certainly be the musician groups. Alternatively, if you can get your bot to do this filtering itself...
I'll add "mwg=". I guess that's best. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
(2) There are problems, yes. It added the "living people" category twice, as seen by searching for "dc*", but it added them to musical groups. See the revert and corrections here. Incidentially, Mindless Self Indulgence wasn't reverted, but Polbot wasn't clever enough to spot that it was adding a category to an article that had no categories. That is a typical case of "end of article chopped off" vandalism that goes undetected. I had to dig through the history to the 4 July find the last unvandalized version here, which I've reverted to (removing the living people cat in the process). I'd suggest just gathering the birth/death category data and outputting a list of suggested changes, unless the bot can do the filtering of musician groups itself.
Yeah, I guess I'll stop adding "Category:Living people" as well.
(3) "If there are no category pipes, or no birth or death catgories, I just leave that out." - could you put "bc=", "dc=" and "cp=" when there is nothing there? Thanks.
Yes, I can. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Unless the above will require major rewrites of the code, do you think another 100 will help? Carcharoth 12:49, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, let's do another run. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I've also just checked the ds and la changes, and only found 2 mistakes from 35. Of course, by mistake, I mean the bot repeated a human error, so just something for the human reviewers to try and spot. "Scotland, William I of" should be indexed under William 01, Scotland. "Muhammad, Wallace Fard" should be indexed under "Fard", as Muhammad is more like a title (technically the name under which he was 'deified'). But these cases are hard enough for humans to get right, so as I said before, the bot perpetuating it is not much to be concerned about. Carcharoth 12:58, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

PS. The bot should really filter out "list-Class" articles and any articles titled "List of", but again, these should be obvious by not having any birth or death categories. Carcharoth 13:09, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

What do you mean by "list-Class" articles? I can certainly exclude "List of" articles. Should it add "non-bio=yes" to those? – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I mean in the WPBiography template, some have "class=list" (another output parameter of "cl="?). Really, they shouldn't have those at all, as even lists should be assessed as article, but for now just list or omit. I'm not entirely clear myself what non-bio means. Would it be possible for you to list the non-bio ones (ie. have an "nb=" output parameter)? Or would this start to get silly? :-) Apart from this, I think we are in agreement over everything else mentioned above, so I'll draw up another trial list. Shall we make it 150? Carcharoth 14:34, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Okay, you've made another 150 for me, and I'll run it as "read only" with no delay. (I'll time it, too, to see how long it takes.) And just to be clear, the log file will have three new parameters, right? cl (class list), mwg (music-working-group), and nb (non-bio), all of which are either "yes" or empty. Is this correct? – Quadell (talk) (random) 19:16, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, that is correct. With the caveat that the value of "class" can be several things. I thought I only wanted cl=list, or cl= (ie. blank), but then I checked over at the template, and the full list of parameters is: FA, A, GA, B, Start, Stub, Dab, Template, Cat, NA. Of these, Template, Cat, and NA (usually Wikipedia namespace pages) should all be outside article namespace, but the class=Dab could be useful. Would it be too complicated to get it to list only the class=list and class=dab pages, and put the rest as "cl=" (ie. blank). If it is easier to just list the class value, then please just do that (and having that as well would be nice for stats - though I know that another bot creates stats, it would be nice to have some assessment stats for this snapshot).
I also played around with the data from the trial run on 100 names, and I realised that there will be problems if any of the parameters, apart from the last one (cp), have multiple values. I think you mentioned that multiple bc and dc values were possible. Maybe I should explain. I am using the "|" character as a column break, so what might be helpful is when there are multiple values for a parameter, is to keep them all within a single column (ie. between "|" characters), and use another character (eg. ";" - but only if that doesn't appear in any titles) to keep the values separated within the column. The final thing is that using "*" is not ideal, as some of the programs I use treat the "*" as a wild-card character, and that messes up search-and-replaces I do. Does that make sense? So maybe another character that doesn't appear in the titles could be used. eg. "$". Speaking of which, do you think "|", ";" and "$" are used in any titles? I know $ and * and ; are, but "|" is verboten. As long as they don't appear in people's names, it will be fine. Possibly something like "^|^" and "^;^" and "^$^" is better, then I can search for different characters (eg. "%"), and if they are not there, I can safely replace "^;^" with "%".
I suppose a briefer statement of the above is can you output the data in spreadsheet-readable x-separated value format? :-) Thanks. Carcharoth 23:44, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
  • I make that 10 parameters:
Name|cl=|nb=|mwg=|lv=|bc=|dc=|la=|ds=|pn=|cp=
A. N. Example|cl=FA|nb=yes|mwg=|lv=yes|bc=1956|dc=Living|la=Example, A. N.|ds=|pn=|cp=Example

Does that look right? Carcharoth 23:49, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

That looks right to me. And if it had two cp names, it would be "cp=Example1;Example2", right? If you're concerned about the semicolon being used, we could use [ instead, which is not allowed in names, but it looks funny. – Quadell (talk) (random) 02:55, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think semi-colons are actually found in names or page titles, though having said that, I'm sure Sod's Law means there is a rock band out there that has one in its name... I'm more concerned about the asterisk, though I've now found that Word does recognise asterisks. It's only my version of Excel that chokes on *. But that is not a problem, as the asterisk will always be right next to an "=" sign in the output from your bot. Oh, hang on, I'm being very silly! The bot is not making changes anymore, so it will not be outputting any "*" marks! :-) Go ahead and use "|" as the main column separator, and ";" as the secondary one. I'm going to gamble that any use of ";" in titles will be followed or preceded by a " " (space), thus enabling them to be picked up separately from the "NAME1;NAME2" format (with no spaces before or after the ";"). Right, I think that's it. So now all we need is (a) You to run the bot over the trial 150 and write the output here; (b) Me to fiddle with the data and standardise the output as suggested by a human; (c) To check that the results I hand back are parsable by a bot; (d) To work out a way for others to do the same work and submit their results; (d) For you to create the ~380 pages; (e) To get volunteers to work through the pages turning the output into results for a bot to write back; (f) For a bot to write the results back into Wikipedia; (g) To work out an efficient way to keep things up-to-date. Carcharoth 12:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Summary:

Lines: 150
Biotags: 148
Nonbios: 0

lv: 121
la: 59
cl: 147
mwg: 21
ds: 72
pn: 38
bc: 135
dc: 135
cp: 71

Time elapsed: 280 seconds.

Comment: The time elapsed indicates that running for all bios would take roughly 200 hours. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for those results. Will take a while to get the results back. Can I just ask what Biotags: 148 means? Were some pages missing the WPBiography tag? Carcharoth 14:47, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes. Some time between when you listed these 150 and I ran them, biotags were removed from 2 of them. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:03, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
I can't work out which ones! Any luck? Carcharoth 15:18, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
Ah. I was looking at your results list, which I thought would include the rogue two, but your list only has 148. That means (looking at my original list) the missing ones are Mary Mallon and N Sync. Let's have a look at what happened over there... Carcharoth 15:23, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Well, it is lucky we did that run. It seems that 'N Sync was my fault (I lost the " ' " somewhere when making the list), but I think the problem with Mary Mallon is that it has {{wpbiography}} on its talk page, which points at the redirect Template:Wpbiography (note the capitalisation). Is your bot only looking for WPBiography? I would look for "what redirects here" so you can detect other variants of the spelling of the template name, but the "what links here" list is a bit too long... Do you think you can do something about this? Carcharoth 15:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Timing

  • Is 200 hours in total too long? How can that be reduced? In any case, we want to get this right first time, so let's get the analysis of 150 done and semi-automated if possible, then apply it to 1000, then see where we can go from there. I'm off out for a few hours now. Carcharoth 15:32, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
    • I don't think there is any way to speed that up. It has to read the article page and the article talk page, and that takes about a second and a half each. – Quadell (talk) (random) 15:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Update

  • Really just a note to say that I have started the analysis of the trial 150, but haven't found time to finish it (and likely won't for a few days). What might be helpful is if Polbot made suggestions as to what the sortkey should be. It gets that right often enough that it is helpful. It's suggestions for lv/bc/dc are less helpful though. I'm also not sure whether to note the suggested changes separately, or overwrite incorrect values (including overwriting blank values)? Ideally, something would mark a Polbot suggestion, an approved Polbot suggestion, and human suggestions. On the other hand, just providing a list of changes might be best. Any ideas on how best to do this? Carcharoth 09:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
    • I could add a field skr meaning "sort-key recommendation". (That would be Polbot's automatic recommendation.) I suppose as an input into a future Polbot function, she could look for a new sk field added by a person, meaning the sort-key as determined by a human. It would make sure everything used that. Sound right? – Quadell (talk) (random) 11:34, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
      • That's a great idea! Yes please! :-) And it should put sk in the la and ds fields (ie after sk values have been passed back to it by a human). Pn and cp are really only used to get suggestions for sortkeys. There may be cases where cp and pn should be changed (spelling mistakes, commas placed wrongly, stuff like that), but there will also be cases where pn and cp need to be preserved (pn for ordinal numbers of kings would be different from sk, and there are many cases where cp is different from the default given by DEFAULTSORT). Carcharoth 14:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Also, bringing an unanswered questions from above down here: Decide whether it is worth removing the cp stuff where it is the same as the DEFAULTSORT? Carcharoth 09:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
    • I could easily have cp changed to mean "category pipes that don't match DEFAULTSORT". Probably more useful. – Quadell (talk) (random) 11:34, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
      • It is still useful to see the ones that do match (or be told that a match exists), as this give the human more confidence in approving Polbot's suggestion, or in selecting their own sk. Carcharoth 14:00, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
      • PS. I actually meant removing the matching cp stuff from the actual Wikipedia pages after adding DEFAULTSORT. An example of very minor housekeeping as it has no effect other than tidying up the page. Typos in cp definitely need fixing somehow, as they will over-ride DEFAULTSORT. Carcharoth 14:39, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
  • One final thing... Is Polbot clever enough to suggest a sortkey based on "LASTNAME, OTHER NAMES"? Carcharoth 14:51, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
    • I don't think you want her to. There are lots of exceptions. – Quadell (talk) (random) 16:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Errors that need fixing

  • Bot doesn't find "BC" birth and death categories. eg. for Cicero it failed to provide any birth or death data.
  • Making sure the bot doesn't ignore variants of the WPBiography template - eg. the redirect at {{wpbiography}}, which makes Mary Mallon appear on the "what links here" list, but was ignored by Polbot.
    • Right. I wish I knew if there were any other WPBiography redirects. There's literally no way to tell, besides going through all 380,000 entries in "what links here". – Quadell (talk) (random) 11:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trial run 3a

  • Since it "only" takes 280 seconds, do you think you could run the bot over that list of 150 again? With the above changes implemented it should now: (a) pick up Cicero's birth and death categories; (b) pick up Mary Mallon; (c) pick up 'N Sync (I fixed the list); (d) include the new skr field; (e) include a blank sk field (or do you want to let humans add that?); (f) and one new thing - could you change the order of the parameters (unless it is difficult) so that the preliminary stuff, birth/death stuff, and sortkey stuff are grouped together? During my analysis, the most logical order I came up with was: title; non-bio; class; mwg; living; birth; death; listas; defaultsort; skr (this is the logical place to suggest the value, as it will be most often based on the previous two); sk (and equally, the human result can go here, after checking the values in the next few columns); persondata; cp (this should go last, as it most likely has multiple values). Or to use your values: title, nb, cl, mwg, lv, bc, dc, la, ds, skr, sk, pn, cp. Hopefully that will be the last tweak needed! Carcharoth 01:02, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
    • That's easy to do. (I'll leave "sk" for humans.) Polbot's tied up with rats and flowers at the moment, but I'll have her run it when she's free. You bot-requesters are like jealous lovers! ;-) – Quadell (talk) (random) 01:14, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
      • My strategy (see your talk page) is to pretend to be interested in the other functions, but really I'm plotting evil things against them. Oops. Did I say that out loud? I've been watching Rome (TV series), at least that is my excuse anyway! :-) Carcharoth 01:33, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
