Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.
If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

Apologies. I missed your stub and created a longer stub Franz Joseph Emil Fischer. I am sure you had the birth and death dates wrong. The German and French articles have them correct and I source a biography that gives them. Since there are many Franz Fischer's I have changed your stub to a disambig page rather than a redirect. The disambig material came from Fischer#F which is a bit of mess. Please help to expand "Franz Joseph Emil Fischer". --Bduke 08:43, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi, and welcome to the WikiProject Greece! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to Greece.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our sidebar points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The Announcements and Open tasks section is updated quite regularly. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{HOGOpenTasks}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Interested in working on a more complete article? The peer review department of the project would welcome your help!
- Interested in a particular area of Greek history, geography, culture etc. ? There is already one task force, and you could initiate the creation of more focusing on specific topics or periods.
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every military history article in Wikipedia.

- Just guessing, I wasn't getting any details in GeoRef for who cited his papers. Perhaps that's not something it can search for me. If you find more drop me a note and I'll reconsider my opinion on his article. From his body of citations it looks like he might have been an expert on alpine quartz but I don't know how to gauge that or how many papers a notable geologist publishes in a lifetime versus a non-notable geologist; please forgive that false dichotomy. - Owlmonkey (talk) 08:19, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

- Hi Owlmonkey, Thanks for the hint and thoughtful consideration. I am trying to compile information and build a case here. Even though I read German and am familiar with the history of his particular sub-field and work environment, I do not have access to most of the journals and serials he published in. Unfortunately, GeoRef doesn't do citation searches liek ISI WoS. The latest citation of a paper in an original research paper I found for him in WoS (hard if the citing sources are mostly not included in WoS either) is from 1990, which is a surprising half-life for any work of that time period really (his 1951 work). However, as a word of caution, it is not straight-forward to assess notability or impact by today's standards, and neither WoS nor google nor Worldcat are a measure for that time period, sub-field of geology (mineralogy), or location(s) he worked at/in. There is no good published analysis of that fact either. I will try to lay out the case for Friedlaender though, as best and unbiased as I can. Regards, --Carboxen (talk) 11:01, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry this has been frustrating. The notability requirements are not always applied evenly here nor consistently in my short experience, but I hope you can appreciate that it's one of the central issues here along with article quality. I think some editors get a little jaded too with all the spam that occurs, making the notability requirements even more difficult; even for articles that are clearly not spam, like yours. - Owlmonkey (talk) 19:30, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
