This list encompasses tropical cyclones that affected the Bahamas.

[edit] 1800—1899

  • September 6–8, 1804 – An intense hurricane moves northwest from the Caribbean with winds estimated at Category 3 intensity on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale.[1] It possibly affects the Bahamas prior to landfall on Saint Simons Island, Georgia.[2]

[edit] 1900—1960

  • October 27, 1900 – A moderate tropical storm moves through the southern Bahamas,[3] but damages are unknown.[4]
  • July 8, 1901 – A strong tropical storm passes near Grand Turk, and a minimum pressure of 1015 mbar (29.96 inHg) is recorded.[5]
  • August 910, 1901 – A westward-moving tropical storm, transitioning from a possible subtropical system, produces winds of 45 mph (70 km/h). Damages, if any, are unknown.[5]
  • July 2122, 1903 – A minimal tropical storm passes east of the Bahamas.[3]
  • September 911, 1903 – A strengthening Category 1 hurricane moves through the central Bahamas, producing a minimum pressure of 976 mbar (28.88 inHg) at Cat Cay. The cyclone destroys fruit crops on New Providence Island, and it causes considerable damages to small buildings. The steamer John Wilson was grounded on the Island of Conception.[6]
  • September 19, 1903 – A tropical depression forms over the Turks and Caicos Islands and moves north.[3]
  • October 2122, 1903 – Another tropical depression affects the southern Bahamas.[3]
  • June 14, 1904 – A weakening tropical storm dissipates over the southern Bahamas, though the Weather Bureau advises precautionary measures for ships in the area.[7]
  • October 21, 1904 – A dissipating tropical system moves east-northeast over the northern Bahamas.[3]
  • October 6, 1905 – A tropical storm crosses the Turks and Caicos Islands.[3]
  • June 17, 1906 – An accelerating hurricane passes near the western end of Grand Bahama.[3]
  • September 57, 1906 – A Category 4 hurricane recurves east of the Bahamas, though it was originally forecasted to move west toward the United States.[8] It disrupts shipping near the northern Bahamas. The cyclone's fringes produce sustained winds of 28 mph (45 km/h) at Grand Turk.[8]
  • October 18, 1906 – The final major hurricane of the season moves over the Gulf Stream between Palm Beach and Grand Bahama,[3] after causing more than 193 deaths in Central America, Cuba, and southern Florida.[9]
  • May 2427, 1908 – An early season tropical cyclone forms over the Turks and Caicos Islands and moves northwest, brushing the Abaco Islands.[3] It eventually strengthened to a hurricane. It was one of two hurricanes to form in May during the season, which remains an unprecedented occurrence.[10]
  • July 2829, 1908 – A tropical storm executes a counterclockwise loop near the northern Bahamas.[3]
  • September 11–13, 1908 – A major hurricane recurves over the eastern Bahamas, producing maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (190 km/h). The cyclone causes heavy damage at Matthew Town on Great Inagua Island, and only five structures remained intact at Clarence Town on Long Island. Vegetation is defoliated along the storm's track. The hurricane also produces winds of 100 mph (160 km/h) on Grand Turk Island, where considerable damages are reported.[10]
  • September 30October 1, 1908 – A strong Category 2 hurricane recurves over the western Bahamas, producing winds of 60–80 mph (95–130 km/h) at Nassau. Several ships encounter the storm's strong winds, and the Hesleyside was wrecked on reefs near the Abaco Islands. All crew members survived.[11]
  • October 1112, 1909 – A weakening major hurricane accelerates northeast, passing over the northern Bahamas. The Antilles went aground over the Great Bahama Bank, and the cyclone's outer bands produced winds of 50 mph (80 km/h) at Nassau.[11]
  • August 2526, 1910 – An area of low pressure associated with a tropical depression moves over the western Bahamas, producing heavy rains off the Southeastern United States.[12]
