The edits were problematic at a number of levels, including moving important material out of the lead; moving irrelevant material into the lead; adding contentious material; using at least one poor source. [edit] Arthur Ford's Hidden Archives

After Arthur Ford's death, Ford's close friend and supporter William V. Rauscher and author Allen Spraggrett discovered Ford's collection of obituaries, newspaper clippings, Who's Who articles, etc. that Ford had hidden away. If I understand it correctly, they were disguised as being bound poetry books. Ford read his poetry before giving a reading. There was enough information to indicate that much of the famous Pike messages and others were fraudulent. There were many other things that Ford ordered his secretary to burn (after his death?) that are lost. Ford and his secretary parted company due to a falling out. Ford's secretary claimed Ford had no psychic abilities. The book Arthur Ford: The Man Who Talked with the Dead by Allen Spraggett with William V. Rauscher, New American Library, Inc.,1973 gives the whole story. This is the primary source used in Alcock's book. James Randi claimed Arthur Ford used to call his clients "suckers". My study of Ford (taking a break) strongly indicates he was a master "hot" and "cold reader" who took advantage of the bereaved. Some magicians who are readers say this, as is done by John Edward, (like to see him without the edited camera tricks,) and others, is not morally wrong because their readings give the living hope. It also makes the "psychic reader" a lot of money, sometimes with gifts and certainly with mind expanding courses that increase the students' irrationality and dependence. Thanks for fixing the links for me, and for those pesky little grammar errors as well - I'm never 100% sure whether to use numerals or words in certain situations, and as for 'its' I've actually learned something today! I probably learned it correctly at school, but seem to have forgot the posessive term. Assumed that we write "Red Rum's saddle" we would also write "It's saddle" Oopsie! Cheers, anyhow. FYI, you may wish to temper back your comments on the afd's for Charles William Jefferys and C.W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute. Based on this comment on User:Rodrigue's talk page, the closing admin had not actually completed the AfD close until several hours after User:Rodrigue put up his two AfD's. In other words, it's reasonable to assume good faith on User:Rodrigue's part i.e. he may well have genuinely thought that the first AfD was a delete instead of the eventual userfy decision.

Not really my place to get involved I suppose, just trying to stem off a wiki-argument that seems to be based on a misunderstanding. -Markeer 23:44, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: "I had assumed you came to my talk page from the admin noticeboard...." etc: Ah, no, I'm not an admin, apologies if I gave that impression. I just happened to be the person who posted to those two current AfDs right before you, so I took an interest (arguably a better word could be "meddled"). As I said, it's probably not my place, and I'm glad to see you've asked for Admin attention if there's impropriety on User:Rodrigue's part. I don't know the user although I've run across his name on a few other AfDs, and I'll admit I've found his tone quite...disconcerting. Based on the time stamp of the Admin's comment on his userpage (4 hours after the two current AfDs) I had thought this might just be a misunderstanding, but of course I don't know for sure.

Entirely possible I'm confused about the timestamps, or whether Rodrigue was aware that the previous AfD was a non-delete, or of something else. I had been assuming good faith on his part, although I'm aware that sadly good faith isn't always the case.

Apologies if I've troubled you and thank you for replying. Now that I know you've opened an incident report it's up to the Admins anyway (and good call opening that case). -Markeer 01:08, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

To be honest, I don't really feel like making it a "school" article again. Even if it does manage to find its legs, it doesn't really make sense to me - 4 AfD's and the result is a "school" article? Blackjays1 02:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

• I just looked at the AfDs that you sent me. Initially, the merge was meant for the shooting article, until everyone seemed to realize that the shooting article became the school article. Even I voted to merge the shooting article into a school article, until I saw what the "school" article truly was.

You seem like a amiable fellow, but please may I request you not censor (that is, delete) a discussion like you did to a topic I and others were discussing on the Jocelyne Couture-Nowak page. If you feel my comments are "out of place" or otherwise objectionable, the thing to do is to say so, and append your thoughts, but not play Information Ministry agent and remove the writings of others (unless we're being obscene, etc). • Likewise on the amiability. You may very well be right. I meant no offense but was responding to other comments on the Talk page about how unwieldy the length was and how it was not the deletion discussion or delection process discussion page. I wasn't sure if what I was doing was correct and so flagged it so that others who know better could restore if need be. That may not have been the right move but it was some time ago. When you're a history major, you come across all sorts of interesting stuff. But the less abstract rationale is pretty easy: I was doing some work at the Minnesota Historical Society and I needed a break from what I was doing, which led me to the dictionary, which then led me to Pearse and the article. By the way, I had taken the bulk of the TV and gaming refs out of the "in popular culture" article because they seemed to be the most "trivial" and probably what was spurring on the "deleters." I had felt like these examples helped prove the point that Medusa was pervasive, but you may have witnessed my many futile debates on the issue. The current references only prove the fact that Medusa is used, they don't exactly tie the uses in to the overall argument of the article. Anyway, I think classical/historical art/literature is a better sell toward keeping the article. It seems like we have enough support to avoid deletion, but we may want to take some of the smaller stuff out until we're sure. TAnthony 00:19, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

I also wanted you to know that I've actually been periodically archiving a copy of the Medusa and gorgons in popular culture article and its talk page on a user subpage, User:TAnthony/Medusa and gorgons in popular culture (and its talk page) in case of deletion so we don't lose it all for good. Of course, I "nowiki" the photo and categories. I learned my lesson from previous deletions and trying to recover some of the info. In any case, feel free to make adjustments or store extra data there if you need to until the AfD is over. TAnthony 19:27, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

While Tieleman may be opinionated, he has quoted directly from the judges decision of June 4, 2007. I felt his detailed entry was the best and needed to be added in order to update the page. It has become very stale.

Not trying to add more to your overflowing plate - just expressing the frustration on our end. As sickening as it sounds, Alison really is a do-gooder. The 'fluff' is actually reality which is probably why she's so upset that the truth is being flagged as inappropriate material. Ideally, it'd be great to get her profile unflagged and edited to the wikipedia guidelines as soon as possible. Please let me know how I can assist with expediting this process so we can finally put this issue to bed! Since the last newsletter sent out in October, there have been many new changes. I'm hoping to make this newsletter a bit more regular; Kaiser matias and Skudrafan1 asked for a new issue a week ago, but sadly, I've been a bit lazy and committed to other things hence this other delay. --Maxim(talk) edit   New recognized content By Maxim There has been numerous new recognized content, so much that it's too time-consuming to sift through the "trophy cases" on WP:HOCKEY. Some interesting achievements: Hockey Hall of Fame was featured on the Main Page on March 7, 2008. AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic was promoted to Good Article status. Kaiser matias has been steadily promoting lists of NHL players per team to featured status. As of press time, List of Columbus Blue Jackets players is at FLC. Although covered in its own section, National Hockey League awards being promoted to featured topic status deserves a mention here, too. It seems that after October's issue, an interest in getting articles featured on the Main Page's Did You Know section has piqued. Half of the project's DYKs were made after October 2007. Krm500 assisted in promoting an ice-hockey related image to featured status. The featured version is Image:Wgretz edit2.jpg. Last, but certainly not least, Kim Williams has single-handedly gotten Nottingham Panthers, a British ice hockey team, promoted to featured article status. edit   Task forces By Maxim There was a new taskforce created within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Boston Bruins. It was originally founded as a separate WikiProject, but was quickly turned into a taskforce within WikiProject Ice Hockey. The list of participants is located here.
