[edit] Morgan's raid prisoners

Hey, not sure if the statement that prisoners from morgan's raid where taken to camp morton is accurate. I read in The Civil War: A Narrative , Fredricksburg to Meridian by Shelby Foote, 1963 - that the captured men, including morgan, where taken to a regular criminal prison (somewhere in ohio i think) in retaliation for reports that southerners had done the same thing to union prisoners (though untrue). I will look it up in my library later. Any thoughts? Cool10191 (talk) 19:06, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Just checked my library, and I was correct. Morgan and his raiders were kept in the State Penitentiary at Columbus Ohio. From the book state above on page 683. It says it was because of a report by Abel Streight that they were kept there as retaliation for the belief that souterners were doing to same thing. It says that morgan had his beard shaved and he was quite angry about it claiming it was inhumane.. lol Cool10191 (talk) 01:07, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Those that were captured in the state of Indiana went to Morton. Those caught in Ohio went to Ohio camps, although it may have been just officers that went to the Ohio State Pen.--Bedford 01:10, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, i guess my book doesn't say anything about those captured in Indiana. It would have not been many, that's probably why.Cool10191 (talk) 01:38, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Mostly those who were wounded at the Battle of Corydon, those captured by Pekin who were a diversionary force who crossed by Twelve Mile Island, and probably a few that could not keep up the pace.--Bedford 01:48, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I wonder if there is an article about Morgan ending up in jail due to false reports intelligence from the south. That is interesting, maybe on the tail end of Morgan's Raid. Thanks BedfordCool10191 (talk) 02:01, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Nevermind it's already there!Cool10191 (talk) 02:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
