The origin of the suburb name is from an Aboriginal word meaning windy. ^[1]

The area is typical of many suburbs in the Greater Springfield area and is undergoing rapid expansion. Forty years ago the area started to develop due to the creation of local sand quarries and this helped to attract the first residents.
