Caledonian Railway 812 Class

The Caledonian Railway 812 Class is a class of 0-6-0 steam tender locomotive designed by John F. McIntosh and introduced in 1899. It featured the boiler from the 721 "Dunalastair" Class 4-4-0s.
The 652 Class was apparently almost identical to the 812. It is believed that the difference between the two classes was that the 652s were fitted with Westinghouse air brakes for passenger train working, but this is subject to confirmation.

Eighty-nine locomotives passed into British Railways ownership in 1948 and were numbered as follows (with gaps):

[edit] Preservation and use in fiction
Locomotive 828 (BR 57566) is the sole survivor of the class and is a very important example of Scottish industrial heritage. It is currently undergoing a £190,000 overhaul at the Strathspey Railway.
