Cal Wells
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cal Wells is a businessman and former owner of PPI Motorsports, and part-owner of Waltrip-PPI Racing.
In 2000, Cal Wells debuted as an owner in Winston Cup and the Busch Series, fielding two cars: #32 Tide Ford driven by Scott Pruett in Cup, and the #96 McDonald's/Ronald McDonald House Charities Ford driven by Andy Houston and Anthony Lazzaro. However, in 2001, the team was reduced to a one car team after McDonald's pulled its sponsorship of Houston's car late in the year and Wells couldn't find a replacement.
According to Jayski's Silly Season Site, the team decided to close up shop after the 2006 season due to Tide deciding to leave NASCAR and after most of the pit crew was hired by Michael Waltrip Racing, which Wells decided to partner as part of returning to Toyota, the brand which was the basis of his off-road and Champ Car operations in the past. The partnership allows Wells to be listed as the car owner of the #00 Toyota Camry of David Reutimann for Waltrip-PPI Racing.
