[edit] History

The club was formed on 26th August 1887 but the first printed report was not until October of that year[3]; since then Caerphilly RFC and have spent many years in the top divisions of Welsh league rugby. Caerphilly has twice been admitted as members of the WRU, once in 1900 and again in 1955 after the club had disbanded and then reformed.

[edit] Home ground

Their home ground, Virginia Park, is a small stadium with all-seated stands on either side of the pitch and a non-seated stand at one end of the pitch. In World War II, German planes bombed Virginia Park, as they incorrectly believed it was being used as an airfield.

When rain falls during a home game, the regular standing fans tend to chant "We wanna roof! We wanna roof" till the rain (or the game) finishes. As yet they are still waiting for a roof.

[edit] Recent success

Caerphilly have featured in two recent cup finals, the European Shield Final 2002 (losing to French team Castres Olympique) & the Welsh Cup Final in 2004 (losing to Neath RFC).

When the seconds play they are known as the falcons and some fans are known to shout 'lets go falcons... lets go'. They also reached the semi final of the Keith Jones cup in 2008.
