I added a blurb about Bob Edwards Weekend now that I know it exists (thanks to KUNC radio for adding it to their weekend programming schedule!) Hopefully didn't over-promote it or screw up the overall flow of the article too much. Dgstangel 06:05, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

No one really does, actually. I go into some of the theories on the bobedwards.info website, but it's anything from certain NPR board members hating him to ageism to boredom. (*shrug*) My personal guess is that it was a combination of things, coupled with a complete disconnect from the desires of the listenership by the executives.
There are some small errors in this entry, which I hesitate to correct as they would change the "voice" of the original poster:
- Ken Stern never participated in the web chat that "explained" why Edwards was removed; that was Jay Kernis, Senior Vice President for Programming and the guy who canned Edwards. The transcript shows how...weasily...the excuses made really were.
- His last interview as host of Morning Edition was Charles Osgood, but that was not his last interview for NPR. The following Monday (3 May 2004) a filed report was broadcast on Morning Edition on the World War II monument where he interviewed various folks including Fmr. Senator Bob Dole. This was the only report he filed in his role of, "Senior Correspondant."
- He was not, "free[d]" for his book tour, but indeed it was the reverse; the tour was planned before the decision was finalized to remove him as host. Instead, it was decided by Kernis/Goodman/et al that since he was to be gone for three months anyway on the book tour (which was also a huge fundraising tour for NPR member stations), there was no point in bringing him back for September-to-November (the twenty-fifth anniversary was 5 November 2004). They figured they could make a "clean break." Boy, were they out-of-touch...
For what it's worth, in an interview with the Boston Globe in November of 2004, Edwards noted he suggested to Kernis that he remain until the 25th anniversary, but was told, "The anniversary is about the future -- not the past." "That was pretty cold," said Edwards.
- While Walter Cronkite was a guest on the first The Bob Edwards Show, he was not the first guest; The Washington Post's David Broder was.

- It's his principle, not yours, and please be polite. Wikipedia does not require editors to register, and Mr. Summers shows more restraint than many by posting here rather than just editing the article. Good for him. -- Gnetwerker 18:51, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

- He never said it was "unprincipled" to register, his phrase was that he "doesn't register on principle" which to me anyways sounds like he has some kind of personaly principle against registering. Perhaps that means registering on wikipedia, or perhaps registering on webpages in general, or perhaps something else. It is HIS principle which he says is the cause of not registering. He never made any kind of moral statement against registering, but stated that his standing "principle" is to not register. Isaac Crumm 06:29, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Bedwards140.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. - OK that's a good link - it's a video and an interview. However I'd suggest cutting down the number of newspaper links - not every newspaper needs to be linked, especially if they all say roughly the same thing. Graham87 05:00, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] I moved a section of the external links to within the appropriate section.
I changed something, but I don't know if it meets the wikipedia format. The external links specific to BE's departure I put within that section. If this doesn't jive, maybe someone can move it back. Sorry if I should have written this question first before moving the links around, but I'm not adding or subtracting anything, so hopefully it's not that big of a deal.
