The company was founded in 2001 by Thierry Denoual and Julien Mayot. The founders of Blue Orange Games were inspired to name their company after a poem titled “The Earth is Blue like an Orange” by a French poet named Paul Eluard.
They wanted to create games that would be fun, yet challenging, while stimulating the minds of kids and families by drawing their attention away from the television and videogame consoles. In doing so, they created a variety of games which allow families to bond, as well as games that the whole family could enjoy. Thus, Blue Orange is dedicated to create Hot Games for a Cool Planet.
Julien traveled around the United States in a Jeep during 2001 to introduce the games and company to the game and toy industry. After traveling approximately 25,000 miles and camping out in his Jeep for several days, Julien met curious retailers and consumers ready to sell their products and interested gamers eager to try their games.
By 2007, Blue Orange Games, which stemmed from one game, now has a catalog which contains up to 20 games for kids and adults of all ages. With its potential in expanding throughout the gaming and toy industry, Blue Orange Games has won many prestigious awards from organizations such as Oppenheim, Parents’ Choice Foundation and Dr.Toy.

Julien Mayot came to San Francisco as a Web designer from France to take part of what was once known as the “dot com boom”. Thierry Denoual, owner of a decorative hardware company with an office in San Francisco, hired Julien to build a website for his hardware company.
Little did they know, as Thierry and Julien discussed their plans for the website, they discovered that they both shared a common interest in their love for playing strategic games. As entrepreneurs, they began their dream of creating a game company which would be built on a human scale with wooden pieces that encouraged social interaction between the players.
