[edit] August 2006

Hi BlindEagle, I really liked your entry on guard llamas (although the subject as such first makes you think of a joke). Very welcome to Wikipedia! You seem familiar with how it works around here, but I'll throw a couple of links at you anyway. Maybe you'll find one or two of them useful, at one time or another.

Don't hesitate to ask me questions on my talk page. I might not be able to answer everything, but hopefully I should know where to look for the answers... // Habj 18:18, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to wait so long to respond... my main focus is on Swedish Wikipedia (and I would certainly not call myself trilingual, my French is terrible. I understand some in writing though, so I figured that would be enough for the most basic level of knowing anything of a language...
Regarding the photos. It mainly comes down on who owns the copyrignt of the photos; most often, this is the photographer. If you took them yourself, you can decide to release them under a free license and put them on wikipedia, also enabling use of them on other places. If you do not want to do that, or if you do not own the pictures... well. Maybe, maybe it passes under the clause of "fair use". I am not good at these things, I really can not tell. We can always check with someone more knowledgeable about this specifically American twist in copyright laws. The best thing would be though, if you have some photos you have taken yourself. Even if they are of lower quality, it is much preferred. // Habj 23:50, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Guard llamas

Hey Rboesen, it's unnecessary to link to guard llamas as they are not used in Wales and England where the lleyn sheep reside predominantly. Jack 13:06, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reverting to older version of a page

It is really very easy: you click on the "history" tab, pick up the version you want by clicking the date and timepoint of that version, then click "edit" and save the page. // habj 09:12, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] merino

I think it is wrong to link to guard llamma as they are not used extensivly to guard stock; in Australia Maremma_Sheepdog dogs and Alpacas are sometimes used. But I am not going to start an edit war over it. You decide which is more important wikipedia or the promotion of llammas Charles Esson 21:15, 5 January 2007 (UTC).

This is much better than an edit war. USA represents 0.7% of the worlds wool production, 0.3% of the merino production. I wonder if llammas work? We use Maremma's they definitely do, they bond to the sheep and they protect them well. It is my view Alpaca's don't, but that is something I would never write in an Encylopedia.

[edit] Re: Change User Name

Is there a way to change one's user name here? Thanx. Rboesen 16:09, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

You can request username changes at Wikipedia:Changing username. Thanks – Qxz 16:10, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:66.244.91.174

Hi BlindEagle, thanks for helping out with Cold fusion as you did with the recent edit by User:66.244.91.174. Just a heads up that I tweaked your comment on that user's talk page in case the user's edit really was meant in good faith. Ronnotel 15:26, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Strange final warning notice

I noticed that you warned User talk:207.156.197.1 over here for their edits to Zeus... but I looked at the Zeus log -- I don't see where that edit was made. Perhaps you can direct me to their vandalism? MrMacMan 15:36, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I guess I was looking for specifically where the 207.156 IP made their vandalism. I see where you reverted the IPs 164.116., here when you reverted 198.237. and here where you reverted 140.211. But I don't see where the person you gave the warning to made edits. Can if you can show me some a diff I would thank you immeasurably. MrMacMan 18:25, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah like I said you reverted the edits of of IP address 140.211.69.11 then you warned the IP address 207.156.197.1. You might have warned the wrong IP address. MrMacMan 19:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
minor link edit

[edit] Bhutan pine

I notice that you reverted my edit of this article on the name. Your reversion is to an assertion about the name Bhutan pine, that 'this name is now avoided...'. Well, you may avoid this name, but I don't. It is common names we are talking about, and if you are trying to prescribe which ones people should use, then that is not only pointless, but goes against the principle of an encyclopaedia. Imc 15:42, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply, glad that's cleared up. Imc 16:26, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the welcome

A lot of those links I'd already found by myself, but there are several that are new and look useful after a cursory examination. I've done a few minor edits before, but I finally decided to make myself an 'official' user.LifeIsArt 20:14, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Llama_sex.jpeg

The legitimacy of the source was questioned by two other editors and the uploader is no longer active to verify his claim. -Nv8200p talk 22:19, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Comment

--Atilladrjb 06:11, 28 March 2007 (UTC)I redirected William Boyd to Will Boyd. Cause his proper name is William James Boyd but his common name is Will Boyd. Like William Jefferson Clinton's Bill Clinton. Can you write William Clinton? No. Please change it, or let me change.

[edit] Karakul Sheep

I think saying that "black servant" is a translation of "karakul" is more of a Turkish play on words than anything else. I'm going to revert. Thanks for pointing this out (It's also the name of a lake in Tajikistan, btw). Twalls 20:39, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

I'd just like to say hello, and I've looked at some of the stuff you've done. A great job and a real inspiration. I'd also like to admit I'm a touch new to the whole article writing scene (Though I originally started on Wiktionary) And would like to ask if you have any advice. Thank you.

--Inabikari 20:56, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] merino

Noticed you added a link to the Delaine merino association: Would you be able to add a page on the development of the Delaine merino to match the Rambouillet (sheep), being from Australia I don't have a feel for the importance of the various strains in the USA to know if it is needed. Looking at old texts I believe they are different strains with different associations and history. Charles Esson 10:44, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re Delete warning

Please do not delete content from articles on Wikipedia, as you did to Cotswold sheep. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 19:35, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Nonsense - you have twice ruined a stub article by adding pointless links. Please refer this matter to the arbitration committee without delay. Saga City 22:22, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Please cease and desist from reverting edits that you have not researched completely. The interlinks placed in the Cotswold sheep article are perfectly legit. They provide the reader with information regarding the wool and related industry. This is your last warning. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 01:08, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Please explain "Perfectly legit", with particular reference to guard llama; it is you who should defend your actions, please do so Saga City 06:14, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Since no activity was ever referenced by Saga City, the edits have been kept. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 16:30, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Curious Question

Actually, I had no idea I had - to me, until I looked just now, I entered the only information on that page. I don't know how the end result has come about, or how I ended up seemingly deleting all the information you had added. May be we should agree to revert it to the version you produced? As I said, I don't know how what I did caused the deletions, and it seems very odd.  DDStretch  (talk) 22:07, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I reverted it shortly afterwards, which is lucky, as more vandalism was warned about later.  DDStretch  (talk) 14:03, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Braille

Even if they do provide services to the entire US (and looking at the actual services they provide i can't see evidence that they do) i still think it's not appropriate to the score of wikipedia (which is international). However i wouldn't revert it again if added but i wouldn't be shocked if another editor did..harlock_jds 15:12, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Global Warming Combating Ideas

BlindEagle, I have percieved you as a person with expertise in this field. I want to ask you if you have any creative ideas to combat this huge issue looming in front of mankind. This is why I have asked you.

                                                    Yours truly
                                                     Bilbillbilll

[edit] Llamas!

I disagree with your disagreement.  :-) The bit about North America belongs in Camelids, not in Llama. It also needs to be significantly reworded. The confusion about the name needs to be significantly downsized, and probably moved to the #Classification section. In any case, vicuñas, guanacos and alpacas should not be mentioned in the lead to the llama article. Cheers, Tomertalk 20:33, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Looks me good. Tomertalk 14:10, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Also, are you aware of this? Tomertalk 20:45, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Response to image question

Well, I'm no great photographer myself, but I'll give it a shot. In the general article space, there's no set limits, however, a featured picture has to be the best of the best. Artifacts show up in most JPG files due to compression. They appear as jagged boxes on the edges of lines, discolored spots and fringes all over the image, and blown highlights, where the bright areas of the image are completely white, with no detail. The quality standard for an image is balanced by the value of its content, whether historical or encyclopedic.

If you haven't read these, I suggest that you do, along with looking at the current featured images:
(Especially the examples of problems)
If this is all redundant, sorry. Thank you for contributing. vlad§inger tlk 20:16, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Llama lede

Truly excellent! That's a great start. There's scope for a little more improvement, (I may dabble a little myself) — but that's great for now... I'm looking forwards to seeing what you'll do with the rest of the article! Verisimilus T 21:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

No idea I'm afraid. That would explain some of the archaic language! I'd suggest that a good Google would be the best way to track down some more up-to-date, reliable sources. Verisimilus T 15:50, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Warnings

I was on here browsing and suddenly was bombarded by warnings, which are from march. And at the top it keeps saying "You have new messages (last change)." and I'm not doing anything. I don't even edit articles on here. what do I do? I cleared my cookies. Also my IP isn't shared it is locked and I am the only one on here so I have no clue why I am being warned unless someone stole my IP. Help me out please. 72.82.169.194 23:56, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Welcome

As soon as I registered online I found many tools neatly placed to introduce a new editor to this encyclopedia and was promptly welcomed by you, an established user. I'm enjoying myself thus far and hope to make a go of it! Thanks for welcoming me and making me feel at home here. Regards, Havelock the Dane 12:51, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Llama - Literary Reference

I am concerned that you consider my addition of a quotation from, and link to, the poem "The Llama" by Hilaire Belloc to be vandalism.
Surely an encyclopaedia may contain references to literature as well as to biology and economics?

Best wishes - James Bryant

[edit] Llama - The Belloc Poem

I should like to replace this quotation and link.
My literary instincts say that it would do well as a forward, in italics, before the main text, in the same way as many books use quotations as chapter headings.
Do you feel that this is appropriate in Wikipaedia, and if not, where do you consider I should place it?
Best wishes JMBryant 20:03, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] General guidance wanted, please.

I have just asked you a question about a proposed change to "Llama".
I feel that I should have asked it generally to all those with a recent interest in this entry
by attaching it somehow to the entry itself but I cannot see any way to do this.
Am I overlooking something?
Best wishes JMBryant 20:16, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re:Alpaca

I outlined my reasoning on the Alpaca talk for you. Hope that's sufficient! VanTucky (talk) 17:45, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Not a problem. Thanks for the input. I just wanted everyone to know what's going on and weigh in appropriately. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 17:46, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hmm.

You reverted the soay sheep entry after I added an external link for a farm site. The page you created for guard llamas links directly to Queso Cabeza Farm, which is a farm site. Please explain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TyMarrs (talkcontribs) 06:00, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Please be aware that one single user is never responsible for any one article, and that all articles are the responsibility of all users. Thus, BlindEagle does not own the guard llamas article. Furthermore, finding link spam in one place is not an excuse to place it in another. Both should be removed. VanTucky (talk) 16:11, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for pointnig that out, albeit not necessary. However, this is a given. Nobody owns articles. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 16:37, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Soay link

That link was exactly the same as link that I previously added that was removed multiple times. While the exact linked page is informational, its parent site is for a farm that sells soays. A commercial agricultural enterprise certainly fails WP:EL. VanTucky (talk) 16:09, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

As to the guard llama link. The very first page that comes up when you click the link has huge bold letters saying they have stock for sale. This is far too much commercial content to be okay per WP:El. VanTucky (talk) 16:46, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Okay. My mistake. I did not know it pointed to that front page. I agree. That should not be linked. I changed the link to their info page. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 17:05, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent edits

Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button Image:Wikisigbutton.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot 18:18, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] okaaay

so ive never messaged anything on wikipedia before but i felt that i was slightly compelled to do so today. The picture of the dead pig... hmmm.... a little bit one siided dont you think? There are so many sites on the internet complaining about all the cruelty to animals and crap like that. The truth is it isnt as bad as they make it seem. They show pics of the worst of the worst. a little bit more one sided eh?

make sure you are showing all sides here okay?

[edit] Welcoming User:Delnatura

Why would you apply the user welcome template to an obvious spammer with a promotional username, who btw has an AIV report filed on them? They're just going to be blocked. Additionally, were you aware that the welcome template you used automatically adds your signature within the template? If that extra one was intentional, please just ignore me. Thanks, VanTucky Talk 20:36, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Assuming good faith does not, first of all, mean being ignorant of the facts as they clearly present themselves. A repentant spammer can be properly welcomed when they demonstrate in some fashion that it was a mistake. Second, the user would have had to get a new username anyway, as the name was promotional. But most of all, it was redundant considering a block was immediately inevitable. VanTucky Talk 20:59, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Raccoon

Your revert of User:123.195.21.198's edits on Raccoon seems to be in mistake, as the edits of that anonymous user, while uncited, do not seem like vandalism. Mazin07CT 20:08, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Report to AIV

Hi. I removed your report of an ip vandal to WP:AIV with the comment that the last warning was six days old, adding I would warn. When I returned to the ip talkpage I noted that your warning was there - so I checked the contrib history again and levied a 31 hour block. I would comment that your warning was not on the talkpage when I first reviewed it, but would apologise anyway for the terseness of my comment at AIV. Mark LessHeard vanU 21:31, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

The sequence of everts was that I reverted a bunch of vandalism by the anon-IP, added the entry to AIV and then added the v4im to the St. Pete talk page. I can see how you could have missed as it does take me a moment or two get put those templates on pages. However, after I reverted all that mess, the anon-IP went back at and that's when I added a second entry for the same anon-IP to AIV. No offense taken. Thank you for blocking the anon-IP! --BlindEagletalk~contribs 21:47, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] It's now a deletion review

Hello, BlindEagle. I'm alerting all of the editors that took part in the the deletion debate for the article Adult-child sex that it is now a deletion review, as seen in this link. [edit] Welcome to Wikipedia:WikiProject Agriculture

Welcome and thanks for signing up! Please look around the project page and talk page for things you can do and feel free to add ideas of your own and things you notice that you don't have the time or knowledge to fix right away. A lot of work to be done on the sheep breeds, as you've noticed. I'm particularly interested in the heritage breeds and I try to patrol to the main sheep page for vandalism.--Doug.(talk contribs) 13:30, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

BTW, we could use help designing breed infoboxes. My preference is to have a single template based on the horse breeds template with which to base all the domestic species breed boxes, needs further discussion at the project though.--Doug.(talk contribs) 13:32, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
I looked at the Horse and could not find the infobox you referred to above. However, I did find the taxobox. Is that what you're referring to? --BlindEagletalk~contribs 14:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
No, sorry, I think according to WP:TOL {{taxobox}} is really only for wild animals and the entire domesticated species or subspecies, not breeds. The breed boxes (which WP:TOL advocates using) are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Horse breeds, there are also breed boxes for dogs and cats, but they tend to list strings of registries. I just removed a {{taxobox}} from Heck_Cattle, there is no point to showing the taxonomy of each breed of a domesticated species as they are all the same.--Doug.(talk contribs) 15:29, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, I'm willing to create the Livestock Breed infobox. I see where the code is within the Horse infobox and probably can copy and modify it as appropriate. However, I do not know how to create a template. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 17:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
I think you simply get the code the way you want it (best to do that in a sandbox, or you could create a subpage of the project) and then move it to Wikipedia:Template namespace when it's ready. You may want to cut and paste it to the Template:Sandbox or one of the Templates X1 through X9 before you move (actually cut and paste so you don't create a redirect unnecessarily) it to it's own page, then you can add the template to a regular sandbox or user sandbox page to make sure it's working right. Don't worry, if you get the code to work, I can move it where it needs to go to be a functioning template. I suggest wherever you work on it, post a notice at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject Agriculture so others can look at the work in progress and comment or help.--Doug.(talk contribs) 02:46, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
                • The code is all at Wikipedia:WikiProject Agriculture/Infobox. I copied it there (actually to my userspace back before the project moved out of there) a while back but let it languish. Let's work on it where it is now so it's accessible to all.--Doug.(talk contribs) 03:27, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This guard llama brochure

Hi BlindEagle,

I notice you've been the main contributor to Guard llama. I assume you've seen the above-linked pdf, which I found through an external link you've included in the article, to the site Queso Cabeza Farm. Nearly all the text in the brochure is an almost exact match to the text of the Wikipedia article. I'm a little confused:

  • Did the author(s) of the brochure copy the Wikipedia article? If so, they've been a little disingenuous in citing other sources but not mentioning Wikipedia.
  • Are you the author of both articles? In that case, perhaps we could work together to improve the in-text citations in the Wiki article, among other things.
  • Did you base your contributions to the Wikipedia article on that brochure? If so, it might be a copyright violation, and even if it isn't, we should probably aim to rework the article using information from disinterested sources.

I do love the article by the way, and great job with all the vandal-fighting! Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 14:27, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Actually, we produced the Guard Llama brochure and then I authored the Guard llama article. It is a free publication to anyone who wants it. So, I did not see any wiki violations when I produced the wiki article. I would be more then happy to improve the wiki article with you. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 17:01, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, that makes sense, thanks for clearing that up. My remaining concern is that, as at least two other editors have commented, the wiki article does read a little like an advertisement. In particular, if it's true that a reliable source has suggested that llamas offer sacrificial protection – as some of your early edits indicate – that should definitely be noted in the article (even if you personally disagree). There are also spots where the wording doesn't sound as neutral as it could. I'll aim to try a little copyediting next week (no time this weekend), and maybe try to improve citations. That sounds wonderful. It is hard being unbiased when you are essentially the only editor for the article. However, I will try my best. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 16:42, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

I did some copyediting – hopefully the article doesn't sound so promotional now. Citations will have to wait til I'm less busy. I didn't quite understand this sentence: "Although llamas have been known to kill predators (including coyotes, woodchucks, and muskrats), they should not be considered attack animals." I'm just not sure what you mean by "attack animal". Perhaps this could be changed to, "Llamas have been known to kill predators, including coyotes, woodchucks, and muskrats."? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adrian J. The reason why the warning of sorts was in there to avoid people thinking llamas always kill predators. This, in fact, is the exception as llamas are prey animals themselves. The goal was to convey to the reader that llamas should not be confused with a dog, for example, that can be trained to kill and will do so everytime in predictable situations. Does that help? --BlindEagletalk~contribs 17:14, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok, that makes sense, thanks. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 15:21, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Llama

No problemo! I was just surprised that there weren't any Monty Python related Llama vandalisms, or am I just showing my ethnicity, age, and comedic leanings :) SkierRMH (talk) 18:46, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] May we co-edit the Barbados Blackbelly page?

Hello BlindEagle,

I am webmaster for the Barbados Blackbelly Sheep Association Int'l as well as a breeder of Barbados Blackbelly sheep and founder of the Consortium that is struggling to conserve the genetics of this rare breed. Last fall I made continuing edits to the Wikipedia page on Barbados Blackbelly sheep to help reduce the confusion between Barbados Blackbelly and American Blackbelly. However, you undid my revisions.

It is really important that a page entitled Barbados Blackbelly Sheep not contain as its primary photo a picture of a horned American Blackbelly ram. I would like to re-edit the page but I think it would be a good idea if you and I try to work together to ensure that the information is correct and remains correct.

Could you please communicate with me so that we can discuss what changes are in order and how best to achieve those changes to ensure that the Wikipedia style is maintained and that the information is properly cited? Perhaps it would be better if I created a separate page for American Blackbelly sheep.

My personal email address is celkins at critterhaven.biz. Note that my Web site is also the largest compendium of information about blackbelly sheep on the Internet and I am author of the BBSAI brochure and most information currently available about the breed. I would sincerely like the Wikipedia article to reflect the same level of accuracy but I have no experience as a Wikipedia editor and need your help.

Your picture appears to be fine. Please resubmit it to the article. I was probably a little over zealous that day with the reverting. If there is indeed a difference in the two different breeds of sheep, there should be two pages. So, let's try to clean this one up first and then create the other one when we're ready. The big thing here is citations. If you cannot cite your work then it is original research and that's not allowed here. Look at some of the article off the main page and not how many citations are within those articles. That's where you want to go with this article. So, adding comments, conjecture or just observations about the breed without a written source is not usually looked upon favorably here. I would be glad to help. --BlindEagletalk~contribs 17:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
