[edit] History
The league was formed in 2000 from a merger of the Newcastle Australian Football League and the Central Coast Australian Football League. The name "Black Diamond AFL" derives from the Cup which has been awarded to the Newcastle AFL Premiers since 1888 and said to be Australia's, and indeed the world's, oldest sporting trophy.[1]
Since the Black Diamond AFL commenced in 2000 the following clubs have won Premierships.
The Black Diamond AFL were successful in winning the Southern NSW AFL Championships in 2007, defeating the Riverina Football League.
In 2008, two clubs were removed from the competition, Woy Woy and Singleton. Singleton and Woy Woy both hope to return in the near future.
In addition, one club was promoted to First Grade, being Lake Macquarie Crows.
