[edit] Please reconsider

Please reconsider your vote on the two live Motorhead singles up for VfD, Roda and I have spent the last two months putting up the the Motorhead discography (see Motorhead page), I'm now working on going through Lemmy's biography for anecdotes relating to recordings, I know all the singles are a bit thin, but they're too young to die, I urge you to change to keep. Thanks for your consideration. Alf 15:09, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Florida law

Who knew I would ever see so much discussion about Fla. law on WP? Soon to be deleted it appears, but WP's for Decency and its VfD as well as TfD FloridaDecencyLaw have some interesting chat on the topic. NoSeptember 12:09, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] My two cents...

  1. Keep as per BD2412. I don't like where this leads from a morlistic viewpoint, but I am trusting that admins will not succumb to pressure from moralistic interest groups pushing an agenda of "moral purity". To such people I spurn thee and rebuke thee! Hamster Sandwich 01:02, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Two Good Arms

Just to let you know, re the Two Good Arms vfd - I did a bit more research, and the song was written in 1977, about Sacco and Vanzetti, and not by them. It most definitely isn't in public domain. DS 12:09, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Impressive

I've managed to show up to vote on this despite having just survived a hurricane, and having neither electricity nor a working telephone. I'm posting this vote telekinetically, by sheer force of will.

That's impressive - can you show me how to do that? -- Francs2000 | Talk 21:58, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Screwed up voting.

Ok, I want advice. Look at the description of the voting processes at Wikipedia:Conlangs/Votes and the opposition raised at Wikipedia talk:Conlangs/Votes. Calling anything that comes out of that voting process a "consensus" is going to be a joke, but voting's started already. What should I do? I've thought about tacking a "The results of this straw poll may be regarded as illegitimate/irrelvant due to the method of counting votes" type message into the voting page, and about putting it on RfC, but... I respect you a lot, and was wondering if you could help me figure out what to do about this. The Literate Engineer 18:35, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fiona Volpe

Thanks for the heads up. Perhaps against the grain, I decided it's better to delete rather than to merge at Thunderball. The information is already there (even has its own paragraph IIRC). I'm at an impasse with James Bond characters. I'm not sure what to do anymore for the more minor characters such as Volpe and even more main characters such as Halle Berry's character from Die Another Day, which has its own stub/article. If you have an opinion on this, please let me know. K1Bond007 21:22, August 31, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Moving the Goalposts

I too have had the same sort of attacks made against me on my own site by these trolls. But, I say again, that is not the issue. The issue is that your entry has been and can be again easily, used by the trolls to publish the addresses of my friends and put them in danger from bums who are looking to beat ME up. Been through all of this on the Discussion page already. Please don't askl me to repeat it. You will see that no matter what I say, they just twist it and come back for more. It is obvious they are malevolent vandals. But I ask again, why is it so importanat for you to keep up an entry that serves no purpose but to bash me? Even now it "damns me with faint praise."

Ashida Kim

I take no position on whether that particular article should exist or not. The only purpose of my comment on the AfD page was to note my understanding of the burden of proof generally required to include/exclude material from articles. -- BD2412 talk 15:58, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ducking The Issue

Please don't hide behind such a facade of intellectual superiority. How would YOU like it if someone were publishing the names of YOUR friends so they could be beaten up? THAT is the question. You claim to be an administrator, administrate something, make a decision, that is what they do. I do not like what is posted there now, BUT I could live with it if you would only Protect the page so they couldn't post names and addresses. BUT, already been through that argument and was referred here, only to get the same stiff and stall treatment. Now, you'll say you can't Protect and they say they can't Delete and the trolls are rolling in the aisles laughing at you. PLEASE! Protect of Remove this page and stop splitting hairs like a bunch of lame lawyers.

Ashida Kim

Sorry, I'm not an admin here, so I have no power to protect or delete any page. -- BD2412 talk 16:36, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

Didn't I just say you would use that excuse? Is there no one with any authority around here? You wonder why I rant? THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHY! This is shabby treament at best and a deliberate troll runaround at worst.

Look, really I'm not an administrator. I have a user account, I can only edit articles, but I have no ability to protect them or delete them or block users or roll back vandalism. Here's a list of administrators, and you can see that I'm not on it. Cheers! -- BD2412 talk 16:45, 18 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your Own Rules

What a load of cheats and liars you are. There is no more User Page for Ashida Kim, proving that, as I said before, YOU closed it. Every time one of my friends comes here to cast a vote for deletion they are blocked and their vote deleted. You say that if a page comes under an edit war you will close it, but whenever anyone tries to edit it you revert and block their IP. You even accuse me of doing it and prevent me from making any more entries on the AfD page. See boys, this is a rigged game. Just like I said it was. You refuse to play by your own rules. So stop pretending you are on some "noble mission" to save the world from mean old Ashida. There is an old Gaelic saying, "Them that don't like us, may God turn their hearts, and if he can't turn their hearts may he turn their ankles so we will know them by their limping." That is why you boys are lame ass trolls, LOL

[edit] Lidix

Hmmmm. These are always tricky situations. What happens in a user space obviously gets way more leeway than what happens in the article space. I've pointed stuff like this out to people quite a few times and no one's cared to do anything about it, even though that article was VfDed a long time ago (oh what a hassle that guy was, I can tell you). As long as there's no incoming links to it from articles, I'm often inclined to ignore this sort of thing and fight the good fight in the article space. If the user never contributes anything else to wikipedia, maybe he'll be removed (and don't think there's a firm policy on these sorts of things), and if he becomes a regular contributor then having a blurb on one's band isn't far removed from personal information that users routinely put on their userpages, though it does seem kind of abusive. I think this band may have been VfDed over a year ago, though I can find no record of it. I guess I'd recommend taking it to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion, though it being a new thing I don't know how much traffic it gets. Other than cast a delete vote there, there's not much I can do. Let me know what you decide, though. -R. fiend 20:25, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Fake color articles

Having allowed the VfU to run its full 5 days, less a few hours, I've undeleted the whole lot of these. For my reasoning, see VfU: basically, the fact that some people did not comment individually leads me to interpret their comments as blanket on the whole AfD, coupled with the numerics means we'll just have to try again. Which is unfortunate, because of your sterling service to the previous debates. -Splashtalk 00:16, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the heads up, I'll deal with them there. -- BD2412 talk 00:29, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thebroken

BD,
Firstly, fear not, complaining about the close is not why I'm here. Well, it is why I'm here but not complaining as much as wanting to talk about the process. If this had been a vote:

d - 1 brenneman 2 kertrats 3 clw 4 johntex 5 gamaliel 6 mikka
k - 1 hoover 2 oojah 3 eliot 4 bbx 5 grue 6 salvag
redirect don't delete - 1 mgm

But it's not a vote, it's a discussion. And if we examine the arguments presented, the outcome is different. But any admin who closed this as "delete" would have had that closure reversed quick smart, I think.

I've seen a few of these in the last few days, where every "delete - no media coverage, no google hits, no alexa" is cancelled by a "keep - notable, but I've go no evidence of that." Does this bother you at all?
brenneman(t)(c) 00:24, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

  • "Ours is not to reason why"... granted, there were bald assertions, but I must have faith that longstanding editors who know the deletion criteria and the AfD process and still make such assertions have some basis of knowledge to do so.  BD2412 talk 00:29, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
    • Yikes, doesn't that end "..ours is but to do or die?" I suppose I get the sense of what you're saying but don't know if my faith stretches quite that far. Do you agree that if a rouge admin closed as delete they'd get spanked, even if they wrote a nice paragraph at the top, "Several editors have claimed X but as there is no evidence presented and this is not a vote..."?
      brenneman(t)(c) 00:48, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
      • I have actually seen such a thing happen, and the articles in question were promptly VfU'd and undeleted.  BD2412 talk 12:49, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jewish Smurfs

Good point! Israel has all the communist Jews (kibbutzs) anyway. Maybe the red Papa Smurf (Soviets) and the capitalist Gargamel (US) are fighting for Smurfs' souls. I also don't think anyone has mentioned that the first Smurf was created only a few years after the Suez crisis....

Another thing is that the idea of Jews as poisonous mushrooms was an element in Anti-Semitic Nazi propaganda, but I'm not sure where that fits in. Tfine80 05:46, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

  • In any event, I don't think an inquiry into Jewish themes is necessarily appropriate for an article on purported Smurf communism - which is itself a topic of somewhat dubious notability, made encyclopedic only by the sheer volume of discussion that has been taken of it. Since I've seen no such discussion of Judaism with respect to the Smurfs, I'm inclined to say it doesn't belong in the encyclopedia at all.  BD2412 talk 12:53, 12 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your vote on the category deletion

I saw you voted on the category deletion for Category:Ecclesastical Government. [edit] Lesson plan

I can't speak for Florida (I'm an Albertan), but in the Canadian provinces, and I imagine in most or all of the states, all that is required is that teachers follow the syllabus. And even that may not be sacrosanct as far as timing is concerned. For instance, in Social Studies, grade four teachers are required to teach units on the geography of Alberta, lives of Albertans in other times, and a unique cultural group in Alberta (ie, Hutterites, Native Albertans). Teachers will typically follow the order set in the curriculum, not because they must but simply because it is very convenient to do so, and may make more sense in terms of concepts provided in one unit which are transferred to another. It is not even necessary to teach the units the school board provides if you have an effective alternate route to providing the same skills and concepts. In my classroom, for instance, I ran a full-scale, fully featured simulation economy. This meant that I did not have to teach the unit on money, because my students learned by practice how to count and make change and so on. And in actuality, they learned more than the objectives required by curriculum - they also learned how to calculate interest, how to calculate taxes (they had to pay income tax), how to write cheques, and more. Not bad for 9 - 10 year olds. Bottom line: lesson plans are what teachers write for each 30 - 60 minute period, unit plans are the broader-scope plans written for a period of weeks or months. Some administrators want to see and approve unit plans, but that is a decision left up to individual schools here. Hope this answers your question. Cheers! Denni 02:16, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Untrihexium

I encourage you to revisit the Untrihexium vote. The original nomination failed to make clear that this isn't an actual element. It's a theoretical postulate, and in light of the article's math mistake it's an insignificant postulate. Regards, Durova 03:29, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

  • To some extent, God is a "theoretical postulate" - the fact that an element is theoretical does not make it non-notable, if the possibility of its existence is seriously discussed in the relevant scientific community. BD2412 T 03:42, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Question

It doesn't really matter, since you're an admin now, and I completely trust your judgment. But when you closed a somewhat heated no consensus AFD, did you catch any flak for it? Just curious, since I've heard conflicting views on what types of AFDs admins can close, and because I saw the AFD while looking at a 2nd nomination of the article in question. Ral315 (talk) 17:09, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Quite frankly, I closed a number of such AfD's before I was aware that non-admins were limited to closing overwhelming keeps, merges, and redirects - when I found that I'd strayed beyond that rule, I immediately culled my activities in that area back. However, I don't recall that I ever got any flack over an AfD that I closed, probably because a) they were closed correctly (an 11-15 vote is definitely not "consensus to delete"), b) there was a fairly lengthy backlog, and I think people were grateful for the help, and c) as it turns out, a lot of people thought I was already an admin at that time. I still might when it is not 3 am and I am thinking more clearly, but in the mean time I know you work on a lot of the wiki fixup projects and I have a memory of seeing one about fighting spam and thought that you might be able to point me that way. I figured that they might have some good ideas about how to deal with these sorts of article. Or am I over thinking this and should I just AfD it now? Dalf | Talk 10:48, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
