Split

I believe an issue we'll be running into is that there are enough significant differences between the novel and the film that there'll be a lot of "in the novel, this, but in the film, that" to contend with, to the point that it would make this entry unwieldy. I realize that there are some cons as well as pros to this, but a separate entry for the film should be considered.

I run the fansite at battleroyalefilm.net, and could fill in most any information you require--I'm just a bit new to the Wikipedia thing and might take some time to learn the ropes. I do encourage those of you who are participating in editing the Battle Royale entry to mine my site for whatever you may need. User:Mikejonas 2:38 29 Jan 2006

Greetings! As a member of WikiFilm who's currently involved in cleaning up film and book articles, I urge you to go ahead and separate the film and the book into different articles. To heck with the wikic***s. As someone has said, it gets unwieldy and confusing to try to cover both media in one article. Thanks for listening. Her Pegship 21:08, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
I agree - they should be split asap - For a precedent see what was done with Solaris and the various film adaptations. Hell things like V for Vendetta (film) and From Hell (film) get their own separate entries so I really don't think there will be a problem with this. If the guy proposing it doesn't feel confident about doing it then I'll sort it out - message me. I'll check back in a few weeks and if no one has raised any good objections I'll do it. (Emperor 00:10, 29 July 2006 (UTC))
Agree. This should be split, possibly three ways - novel, film, and manga, with sections indicating where they coincide and differ. Right now the article is a mess, particularly the descriptions of the plot and characters, which are all jumbled and incoherant due to the differences between the novel/manga and film. This needs to be fixed sharpish. addy 15:44, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
It should definatly be a 3 way split. There are almost as many diffrences between the manga and the book as there are the film and the book. It's significantly diffrent.
I agree with the split. --Vindexus 06:48, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
A split is nearly needed for this sort of thing. The movie, book, and film are all different enough to warrant a new article, especially the latter portion of the manga, which is different in many aspects to both other versions. The movie also branches off quite a bit from the others. Zelosaurion 00:48, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Article changes

I went ahead and modified the film cast list--I thought the previous one looked very IMDB-ish, and the Special Version and minor characters combined with the students themselves can be very confusing. I separated the students from the minor/other characters, and the additional characters from the Special Version.

Oh, and I'm all for doing a new page for the Manga and Novel, as most of its content/premise's completely different from the movie. Same goes for the character page--some character's traits in the movie are completely different from the novel/manga (ex. Keita Iijima, Hiroki Sugimura) --Dreweid 11:43, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Horror template

I removed the addition of the Wikiproject:Horror films template that was added earlier today. I don't believe BR really qualifies as a horror film. Dystopia and borderline SF, yes, but not horror. 23skidoo 13:44, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Battle Royale template

What do you guys think of my new Battle Royale template? I know it looks a bit too long... What should be removed? I think the main and secondary characters lists should be reduced to half their current sizes. --Henrickson 19:28, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Locations is just a sea of red. --SeizureDog 09:35, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

WikiProjects

Okay, this article is now part of four WikiProjects (inherited or not). That might be too much, IMO. --Geopgeop 14:37, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't see how. Just means even more attention can be directed here.--SeizureDog 09:35, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Ryuhei Sasagawa

I found another Ryuhei Sasagawa at Reborn! The BR Ryuhei should be moved to "Ryuhei Sasagawa (Battle Royale)" and a disambig should be made at the old location. WhisperToMe 07:32, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Sequel?

In the amazon page, it says BAttle Royale (Volume 1). Does that mean there will be a volume 2? Or is that just Amazon making fun of me-69.123.9.255 04:58, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Split this page

Look, there's a film, a book, and a manga all squeezed into one article. This page needs to be split.

Here's what I'm we do:

  • Make Battle Royale a disambuation page that links to:
    • Battle Royale (film) or Battle Royale (movie) (which ever one isn't chosen should redirect to the other)
      • "(film)" is the preferred form. Her Pegship 02:31, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
        • Hehe, I thought so. :) Bwhack 09:02, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
    • Battle Royale (book) or whatever would be in the ()s for books
    • Battle Royale (manga) or Battle Royale (graphic novel) (which ever one isn't chosen should redirect to the other)
    • Maybe Battle Royale II: Requiem since it's related to Battle Royale in an immediate family kind of way
    • And if we include BRII, also include Battle Royale II: Blitz Royale (manga)

Since it looks like the film, book, and manga are all intermingled in the lead paragraph, and probably else where in the page, keep that in mind if you decide to be bold and take it upon yourself.

I agree, mostly. The book was first, and so the main Battle Royale article should cover the book, with links to the manga and film articles (and the film article should be Battle Royale (film) per the naming conventions. Lord Bodak 16:09, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree with the split (as discussed above) and it does need a disambiguation page but possibly at Battle Royale (disambiguation). On the other things - it should be Battle Royale (film). If the book is going to be the mian page then Battle Royale (novel) isn't really needed but you could redirect it here if need be. (Emperor 02:26, 7 August 2006 (UTC))
I like the idea of the novel being the main page, since it was out first. Then perhaps a "See Also" heading to the disambiguation page? :) Bwhack 09:02, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good to me - if someone comes along and really objects to it then they can alway swap the novel page to Battle Royale (novel) and then move the disambiguation page here. That would be the work of moments - the work is in splitting it all up so there is the flexibility to do this. (Emperor 13:09, 7 August 2006 (UTC))
I disagree. While the novel came out first, the movie is more popular and widespread. I'd wager that most people doing a search for it on wikipedia are looking for the movie. I vote that Battle Royale be changed to the disambiguation page, while Battle Royale (novel) takes its place. Monsieurxander 18:47, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

I've split the film from this page as much as I could, taking out the "Film" and "Remake" sections along with some external links and categories that only dealt with the film. The new link is Battle Royale (film). The bottom template has been modified to reflect the creation of the new page. Bwhack 12:38, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Good work. I have split off the manga and done some tidying (like removing the split tags and adding in a link to the disambiguation page). When its looking tidier I'll edit the information into the bottom template. (Emperor 23:33, 11 September 2006 (UTC))

Muffin Remix

What does this have to do with anything? I have deleted it.

What is the controversy

What is the controversy?

Very simple - the film is about children killing over children, and this is still considered Taboo by many in the west addy 15:46, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Where can I find out more about the Japanese Parliament's attempt to ban it?--Darrelljon 20:27, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Please merge this crufty article

Someone recently created Lighthouse scene. That article should definitely be merged in here per WP:FICT. Pascal.Tesson 20:30, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Keiko Onuki

I found out Keiko's last name in the book is Onuki.

Does she have the last name Inoue in the film? WhisperToMe 23:07, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Battle Royale (game)

Battle Royale, is a pretty amazing game, I have played it, and i feel that it will be very big within 1 year. Its a really amazing game, and should have tournaments, and series.

The Dead

Stop editing Yositoki's cause of death. In the novel (which this page is about) he is not killed by Kitano detonating his collar, he is shot by the soldiers when he begins to threaten the teacher after Kitano says he raped Ms Anno (Yoshitoki's "mother figure"). (Bishusui 13:07, 24 October 2006 (UTC))

  • Except he is killed this way in the movie version. And, again, this is about the novel AND the franchise in general. WhisperToMe 02:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Since the split, this should no longer be true. Appropriate edits will be made. Monsieurxander 07:30, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Spoiler images

I was looking over the character pages and most of them contain images of scenes from the film. While some of these are relevant a large proportion of them are irrelevant and just seam to be either clutter or spoilers or both. For example the image which appears on several pages of Noriko Nakagawa being locked in a toilet cubicle. Do we need this?, I’m pretty sure that just writing that it happened in the film on Noriko's page is enough. Another example is Takako Chigusa there must be at least 5 images of the same scene, nearly all of which are spoilers, surly only one or two of these are needed. These are just examples of what I have seen over nearly all the character pages. Something needs to be done before the pages just become cluttered with pointless images. All that is really needed are images of the 2 different visual versions of each character. - Urrgh5591 10:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
