Battleship is an NES and Sega Game Gear video game based on the classic board game of the same game. The object is to sink the opponent's entire fleet without him sinking the player's fleet first. In this updated version, both the player and the computer get extra firepower from military aircraft and support weapons. There are even scenarios that start a player off in a pre-played game that he must resume (and overcome a bleak scenario). This video game was mentioned in an old issue of Nintendo Power.
There was a sequel on the Super NES, Super Battleship.
[edit] Weapons
Cannons are the most notable weapons of combatant ships. The user can attack an enemy vessel by aiming the sight and pushing the button.
Torpedoes are another type of ammunition. They are explosive and powerful. However, they are slower than the cannons.
Depth Charges are weapons used against submarines and underwater mines. The user must first adjust at what depth the charges will detonate before launching them.
Missiles are the most powerful among the weapons. Though a ship could only have up to two of them, they can sink a ship of any size in only one blow.
[edit] Levels
Each level of the game becomes increasingly difficult with a smarter computer opponent. After the completion of a level you are scored on your accuracy and given a 4 digit code to skip to the next level if you restart the game. The codes to advance to the different levels are: 9946 for level 1-2, 8472 for 1-3, 5535 for 1-4, 1929 for 1-5, 7390 for 2-1, 6501 for 2-2, 5340 for 2-3, 1536 for 2-4, 3328 for 2-5.
The first five levels, 1-1 through 1-5, give you the chance to place four differently sized ships on your board. Levels 2-1 through 2-5 allow you to place the same four ships as well as a single square submarine.
