Shouldn't this be fused with the entry for axoneme, or, if both terms are not exactly overlapping, could someone explain the difference?

I guess they could be merged, although the terms are not identical (though overlapping, e.g. the axoneme forms out of the basal body). Other merge candidates might be centriole, centrosome and microtubule organizing center (MTOC), with MTOC being the main page. - tameeria 19:08, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Addendum: I've proposed a merge with MTOC, though I don't think axoneme would fit there as well. - tameeria 19:21, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

The basal body and the axoneme are entirely functionally and even structurally distinct. The basal body tmeplates the axoneme, but that does not mean they are the same thing. Not at all!

So far as mergers are concerned: centriole and centrosome could be merged, but Basal body should be kept separate as should spindle pole body. MTOC is a collective noun for the above, but that doesn't mean that they should all be merged. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.111.45.179 (talk • contribs) 13:51, 21 June 2007

[edit] Merge with kinetosome

I'm proposing to merge this with kinetosome as the two articles talk about the same structure. - tameeria (talk) 14:05, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
