Barachel is a 27 year old male living in Illinois, United States. This user absolutely loves raising a two year old, but it doesn't leave a lot of free time. What time he does have is spread pretty evenly over the following:
- Boy Scouts of America, in which he is an Assistant Scout Master!
- Camping, which is really inconvenienced by his stupid job!
- Soccer, both playing and watching. (Vive Independiente, Rey de Copas!)
- Watching Films. Barachel gets pretty passionate (obsessed) about some movies!
- Memento by the great Christopher Nolan. I highly recommend everything Nolan has worked on.
- The Matrix movies by the brilliant (though somewhat bizarre) Wachowski brothers.
- Firefly and Serenity. While not a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel, Barachel feels that Joss Whedon made a brilliant show that was unjustly canceled. Serenity is a great movie, but hopefully not the end of the Firefly legacy.
- Reading everything he can get his hands on, especially:
- Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut. A blend of dark humor and philosophical criticism of how we act and think.
- House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Okay, technically I haven't read it yet. I am waiting for it to arrive in the mail, but I squatted at Borders for an hour reading the first couple chapters and got obsessed. However, it was cheaper on Amazon and I'm kinda poor :(
- Playing Video Games
- The Final Fantasy series. Each game, though unrelated to the rest of the series, contains a brilliant story line, involved characters, and beautiful graphics.
- The Metal Gear Solid series. Arguably the best Playstation series ever. An action game that requires stealth and evasion instead of bloody conflict. Also, beyond the action is a deep philosophical discussion of how we perceive the world and the decisions we make. Hideo Kojima is a genius.
