[edit] Coca-Cola

Barq's is now owned by coca-cola correct? Could someone expand on that, like how they were purchased?

[edit] Move

As this article is about the Barq's company and products in general, not just the root beer, I was thinking it might be appropriate to move it from the current title of "Barq's root beer" to "Barq's". Thoughts, objections? -- Infrogmation 02:46, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I agree, sounds good. --Chairboy 03:18, 18 Aug 2004 (UTC)
As there have been no objections, I will do so. -- Infrogmation 16:20, 27 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Barg's has bite?

Is it for sure that 'Barq's has bite' refers to caffeine? I always assumed it was the rich dark sharp flavor, similar to Coke, that other lighter milder root beers lack.

I agree, recent radio commercials discuss the tingling mouth sensation one gets when one drinks it, and notes that this means Barq's has the proverbial bite. I'll go ahead and change it. --Sycomonkey 21:16, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Barq's is best

Who here agrees that Barq's is the best root beer ever? multima 22:00, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

But of course --Sycomonkey 21:16, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
I agree--63.113.199.109 11:04, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Actually I think I'm beginning to understand, thanks to this article, why people who 'like root beer' don't like Barq's, and why I don't like anything BUT Barq's.. Barq's is apparently not really 'root beer' but sarsparilla. Yum! You can really taste the silent R.

Actually, sapsarilla has been used in the making root beer. It's not like Barq's is the only one that has used it. Mr. C.C. 18:10, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually, their slogan itself says why I don't like Barq's. "Barq's has Bite". But Root beer isn't supposed to have bite, it's supposed to be smooth and creamy. 66.151.205.13 20:15, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Who's to say what root beer is "supposed to" have. Root Beer to me isn't hit or miss where if you like one, you'll be repelled by the other (See Cheez-It's, Cheese Nips). I'm a fan of all root beers. Barqs is my favorite for the specific reason that it has that "bite". Just because it's not a clone of the taste of other root beers doesn't mean it's not supposed to taste like that, it just makes it unique. Though I'll still use Mug or A&W to make floats! [edit] Canadian Barq's sweeter?

For any Canadian or anyone in general who has drink Barq's in Canada, do you think that the Barq's in Canada is sweet? I mean I have tried the American Barq's years ago because a friend of my family's son is a trucker and go to the States a lot and he brought back some Barq's from the States. I must say it was really good and not to sweet.

So does anyone agree with me that Barq's in Canada is sweeter then Barq's from the States? I am thinking that it might be a neutral point of view. So that's why I am asking and that's why I didn't add it to the article. Mr. C.C. 06:19, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

In Canada all soft drinks are made with sugar and in the United States they are made with Corn Syrup. That's probably why you taste the difference 67.160.118.55 06:33, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Barq's in Brawley, CA

The Pepsi-Cola bottler of Brawley CA bottled a number of drinks under the Barq's name during the 50's, 60's and 70's when I left the area.

Barq's Root Beer was one of three or four good root beers available but didn't particularly top that category.

Barq's Cream Soda, not the Red Creme version, was notably less sweet and very hgh on vanilla flavor with a smooth, creamy mouth-feel. It also looked exactly like beer and would pour with a head. :) The best cheap Cream Soda available, it really became a favorite.

Barq's Orange was similar to Orangina which I had tasted in Arkansas. It had little orange-colored dregs in it that were supposed to be grated orange peel. Also not as sweet as other orange sodas and with lots of flavor, better than Crush.

Barq's other flavors were good (Lime, Lemon, Grape, Cherry?) but Red Creme soda was just weird. It tasted like raspberry bubble gum with a mint aftertaste.

[edit] Barq's not from LA?

From the sun herald on 3/4/2007 History revisionists are at it again, forcing me to jump on the old, wooden Barq’s crate to shout, “Barq’s was not born in New Orleans!” Can anyone hear?

Barq’s is Biloxi’s own. Period.

Barq’s is pure Mississippi Coast. Historic threads of syrup do twine to New Orleans and Louisiana, but the creation of this magic elixir should not be attributed to any place other than the town where Edward A. Barq Sr. moved in 1897 and bought the Biloxi Artesian Bottling Works….

This should be verified and updated. 69.104.82.241 22:10, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hear Hear! I know Mrs. Barq personally and if you want to see her angry sugest Barq's if from New orleans. I realize that there is no way to prove I know her but I have heard it from the horses mouth so to speak. I live near New Orleans now and love the city with all my heart but I was raised on the Ms gulf Coast and Barq's belongs to Biloxi!--Kjrjr (talk) 19:47, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Any and all regional boosterism should be irrelevent to articles. If anything in an article is factually incorrect, please correct it with accurate details (preferable referenced and verifiable). See Wikipedia:NPOV. Just the facts. Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 20:05, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Its not regional boosterism if its a fact. That said, I don't have a verifiable source. True, Mrs. Barq would be a pretty creditable source, but there would be know way to prove who she is or that I actually know her, at least not in ways that translate easily to Wikipedia. This is exactly why I only commented in the discussion area! Notice please, I did not edit the article, but I am calling for anyone who has the verifiable info to do so. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this is what the discussion area is for. Cheers yourself. --Kjrjr (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

What specifically in the article is incorrect? Wondering, -- Infrogmation (talk) 16:35, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] What do you mean Barq's has bite?

Johnny?

[edit] I believe Barq's has a very different taste from regular root beer. Maybe this should be put into the article somewhere if I'm not the only one?

I always have believed Barq's has a very different taste. I can't exactly tell what, but it's very different somehow. It tastes similar to cola. I personally hate Barq's (and cola) though that's only my opinion, but can even tell Barq's from another just by smelling it. I don't know if I'm just weird (actually I'm sure people would say I am for hating cola) but it DEFINITELY has a different taste than other brands. If people agree, maybe someone could add something on this into the article? --24.45.158.155 08:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Did you even read the article? TheJudge310 19:47, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
