Barton Seagrave

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barton Seagrave is a village and civil parish in the Kettering borough of Northamptonshire, England. The village is a suburb of Kettering and is south-east of the town centre. It had a population of 4,185 according to the 2001 census.

Schools in the village are Barton Seagrave County Primary School, and The Latimer Arts College.

The village boasts one of the oldest Parish Churches in the Borough of Kettering, St. Botolph's: parts of the building date back to 1130 AD.

The village is within walking distance of Wicksteed Park which lies within the vital green belt between the village and neighbouring Kettering. Encroaching the village are currently new warehouse developments along the A14 that occupies former agricultural land. The A6 forms the other major village border.

[edit] Development

The part of the village closest to the A14 is currently being residentially developed by Persimmon homes, this was met with much opposition by the current residents but went ahead anyway.

There is a currently a development in planning a housing estate to the west of the village by the housing tycoon company, Redrow. A campaign is ongoing by current residents by displaying signs saying "BARTON SAYS NO TO REDROW".

There is significant pressure from developers, backed by the Duke of Buccleuchs property company, to urbanise the village under the title "East Kettering" providing a new development as far away as possible from both the town centre and the existing sustainable transport hubs.
