Barcalounger

A Barcalounger is a type of recliner made in the United States of America. It was introduced by the Barcolo Manufacturing Company of Buffalo, NY, which eventually became the Barcalounger Company. The chairs are currently produced in North Carolina. B arcolo Manufacturing also made beds in Welland Ontario under the Quality Beds name in the first decade of the 20th century, and is also reputed to be the first American company to allow its employees coffee breaks, in 1902.

- In Rabbit is Rich by John Updike, protagonist Harry Angstrom has a Barcalounger in his house.
- In Friends Chandler and Joey both own Barcaloungers.
- In BASEketball, when Joey gives the ball he made himself the same way Coop did, the ball has a chair logo in the same place, but instead of the La-Z Boy logo, it's one for the Barcalounger
- In The Nirvana Blues by John Nichols, the residents of Chamisaville recline in Barcaloungers.
- In chapter 4 of Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut, one item the Tralfamadorians used to furnish Billy Pilgrim's artificial Habitat was a Barcalounger they had stolen from a Sears Roebuck warehouse.
- In "Welcome to the Monkey House" by Kurt Vonnegut, a chair in a suicide booth.
- Dave Barry often uses the Barcalounger as a heavy object or a point of lazy repose.
- In the television show Frasier, a Martin Crane's favorite chair is a Barcalounger, which Frasier detests because it clashes with is decor.
