[edit] Stringy floppies

Hi - thanks for the comments. I got curious about the launch date of the Exatron Stringy Floppy because I recall at the time of the launch of the ZX Microdrive in 1983, the stringy floppy concept seemed well established. I'm afraid I don't know anything about Entrepo, apart from what's in the Stringy Floppy article and the fact that the Rotronics Wafadrive used Entrepo cartridges according to the documentation referenced in that article. [edit] External links

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. -- GraemeL (talk) 01:31, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rhône-Poulenc

Thank you for adding the Rhône-Poulenc article. Wikipedia needs more articles about companies outside the United States. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 17:02, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the encouragement! -- Austin Murphy 18:59, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Please stop removing my links. InfoStor articles are well-researched and vendor neutral. The add to the body of knowledge regarding each subject. Thanks, Ann Silverthorn

[edit] 15 February 2007

A tag has been placed on Ben C. Wang, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. theroachmanTC 22:54, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Alloy-logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Alloy-logo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 22:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Alloy-logo.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Alloy-logo.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. MECUtalk 22:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NetBackup references in Backup

I see you added these back in August, and they look inappropriate for this article. I mentioned this on Talk:Backup, but before jumping in and "cleaning up", perhaps I have missed an important point? I see no other application-specific terminology in Backup, so I'm wondering what has happened here. Comments back are welcome! Thanks! Marc W. Abel 16:58, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Delinking dates

Hi - I see you've been delinking dates. There's a case for keeping them linked - please see If a date includes both a month and a day, then the date should normally be linked in order to allow readers' date preferences - see [1] --Oscarthecat 20:52, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I did not know that double-linking a long date makes the display of it user-preference-changable. I can see the need for displaying dates differently based on different standards for different geographical locations. That still does not explain why you relinked the stand-alone year dates in the VERITAS Software article. Linking the dates adds no value to the article, but increases the clutter. -- Austin Murphy 21:16, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Good point - I've fixed those standalone years now. --Oscarthecat 21:19, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Avocent logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Avocent logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:23, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use disputed for Image:Image:DAT72-logo.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Image:DAT72-logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 09:31, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Southwest Center City

Hello. Thank you for reverting the recent move of the Southwest Center City article, which was moved without discussion. I have started a discussion about the issue on both pages, and would appreciate input.

Thanks also for citing some of the names used in the page. I wanted to inform you that I removed the reference link you added for G-ho. Blogs typically don't make good sources and are discouraged in Wikipedia:Verifiability#Questionable sources. There is also a discussion on the talk page about this. I left the name in the article though in the hopes that a better source will come up.

I have also had difficulty loading one of the reference links you added. My server can't find http://www.southphillyblocks.org/, could you check the url? It may just be temporarily down for some reason. Sbacle 12:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

That's strange, the link seems to work for me now. I found a different source for the G-Ho name. That blog seemed to be a nice reference for the neighborhood. I especially liked the map, but like the text, that probably wasn't 100% kosher either. -- Austin Murphy 20:13, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
The link works fine for me now, I think I was just having browser issues. Thanks again for doing some great research and citing these neighborhood names. A quick glance at the discussion page and edit history will tell that this has been a contentious issue, and it's nice to have some solid sources finally. Sbacle 12:40, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fortune lists copyrights

Hi, I'm on a vacation till next Sunday, so I won't be able to respond properly. I cannot paste the text of the complaint because of OTRS policies, but the complaint is an official one from Fortune. The matter is being discussed on otrs-en-l (again, that's not available publicly). Jimmy Wales and some others have suggested that we create a new list titled List of businesses by revenue (actually List of companies by revenue exists) -- that will be similar to the Forbes list, and they cannot sue us for copyright violation in that case. The general view is that even if we have a legal right to copy their list (since it's compiled from publicly available information), it's not ethical -- they work hard on that list, and make money by publishing it. A better option would be to work on our own List of companies by revenue, using the same source -- it'll be almost same as the Forbes list.

I am on a break till next Sunday. So, if you've any suggestions or in case you need any clarification, please contact any of the OTRS personnel. utcursch | talk 06:18, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

First, Penn was a commuter school for most of its history, so statements about its original arrival to the area and its being a major developer there need to explain that history more accurately -- when development happened, where, and why. Also, though Drexel and the University of the Sciences may have had long histories in the area, neither was a university at the time when the name "University City" was coined; the name referred only to the University of Pennsylvania. Next, 40th Street wasn't redeveloped in the 90s; the UCD (responsible for the redevelopment) was only formed in 1997. Additionally, the recent developments there were arguably not done with community involvment, but rather with the appearance of community involvement, so any mention of that will require a more detailed explanation of the real nature and history of that process. Finally, the "Penn Bubble" is not simply about where students feel safe, but also about the growing extent of Penn's ownership and operation of real estate, housing, and schools past 40th Street, and therefore its promotion of the area as 'more acceptable' for its student market. I hope this helps explain the complexities, and why it can be misleading to add (inadvertantly) incomplete, non-neutral, or non-contextualized details. [edit] Your edit to University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine

Hi there. Your edit to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine was erroneous, so I reverted it. Ben Franklin certainly did not found the medical school, as you noted in your edit summary, but the sentence you removed stated, "The University and Pennsylvania Hospital were both founded by Benjamin Franklin," with no mention of him founding the medical school. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:13, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi CobaltBlueTony, I removed the sentence, not because it was false, but because it was off-topic. The subject is the med school, not the hospital or the university. At best, a reference to Ben Franklin is a cheap attempt to make a link to something famous. At worst it's confusing to someone casually reading the article. Mostly I just don't see how it is relevant to an article about the med school. Anyway, the sentence itself is only partially true. Ben Franklin did not single-handedly found the univ and hosp. A bunch of other people were involved and if it is actually a matter of importance for this article, those people should be mentinoed too. -- Austin Murphy (talk) 18:29, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Datasonix

A tag has been placed on Datasonix requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ukexpat (talk) 19:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Datasonix logo.gif)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Datasonix logo.gif.

Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 22:34, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
