Austin Gatt (born July 29, 1953) is a Maltese politician, currently serving as Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications.

He studied at the University of Malta where, in 1975, he graduated as Doctor of Law. He has been involved in politics since 1976 when he was responsible for the Nationalist Party Electoral Office. In 1988 he was elected Secretary General of the Nationalist Party and held the post until 1997.

Gatt first stood as a Nationalist Party candidate in the 1996 general elections when he was elected. After the 1998 general elections he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and after a few months, in March 1999, promoted to Minister of Justice and Local Government. After the 2003 elections he was appointed Minister of Investments and IT with Industry being added to his portfolio in 2004 after the resignation of John Dalli from Cabinet.

After the March 2008 general election, Gatt became the Minister for Communications and National Projects with responsibility for IT, the Water Services Corporation and Enemalta, Malta Shipyards and the roads on March 12, 2008.

On Monday 15th April 2008, the government announced that the name of the Ministry for Communications and National Projects has been changed to the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications (MITC).[1]

He is married to Marisa Zammit-Maempel and they have two sons.
