[edit] Footnotes
- ^ Goals in all competitions (Football League or Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Charity or Community Shield and European) are counted.
- ^ Arsenal finished with exactly the same league record as Blackburn Rovers.
- ^ Arsenal were originally awarded sixth place due to an error calculating goal average, which was not corrected until 1975. Reference: Soar, Phil & Tyler, Martin (1986). Arsenal 1886-1986: The Official Centenary History of Arsenal Football Club. Guild Publishing, p. 42.
- ^ Arsenal finished 3rd in the principal competition but 11th in the supplementary.
- ^ Although they had finished outside the automatic promotion places in 1914–15, Arsenal were re-elected to the First Division after it was expanded in 1919.
- ^ a b c d e f Although the League Cup started in 1960-61, like many other major clubs Arsenal declined to take part initially, a situation that lasted until the 1966-67 season.
- ^ Arsenal were deducted two points after a brawl in a game with Manchester United on October 20, 1990.
- ^ Arsenal originally entered the UEFA Champions League in 1999-2000 but only came third in the group stage and were knocked out; however, they were granted a consolatory place in the UEFA Cup under the rules of the tournament at the time.
