Jae Hyun Park (박재현, 朴宰賢) is a native of the Republic of Korea currently pursuing an M.A. in Security Studies at Georgetown University. His specific interests are in planning military forces, intelligence, weapons of mass destruction, civil-military relations and North Korean affairs. Park holds a B.A. in Journalism and is a candidate for an M.A. in Political Science and International Relations at Korea University.
[edit] Past Experience
Park served in the Republic of Korea Army as a combat medic. He was assigned to the United Nations Command Security Battalion - Joint Security Area, where he served as the Battalion Medical Logistics Technician and Assistant Evacuation NCO. He later served as the senior ROK Army NCO for the Headquarters & Headquarters Company Commander. Park was awarded the US Army Expert Field Medical Badge and the US Army Commendation Medal in 2001.
After being dischared from the Army in 2001, Park returned to his studies at Korea University and pursued work experience at various organizations. He served as a Research and Administrative Assistant at the Ilmin International Relations Institute at Korea University. He also served as an Assistant Instructor for an undergraduate course in the Spring semester of 2006, where he lectured on international peacekeeping, complex humanitarian emergencies and security issues in North East Asia.
In 2005, Park served at the National Assembly of Korea under National Assemblyman Jinha Hwang of the National Defense Committee, where he participated in drafting preparation briefs for the 2005 Legislative Review. Park was tasked to focus on a number of issues, including the Military Reform Plan 2020, military medical capabilities, quality of life improvement for conscripts, and the North Korea nuclear issue.
Other past internship work experiences include the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (Mine Action) in New York, and the Disarmament and Nonproliferation Division at the Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Park currently volunteers as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service in Washington DC.
