[edit] Big project!

I intend to do a huge amount of work on this article, along with the other TIS articles in the template at the bottom. A few points to make here, mainly for my own benefit to remind me...

  • First installation of production (non-trial machine): 27/10/1986, Didcot Parkway. (Needs to be checked.)
  • Final installation in terms of replacement of NCR21/NCR51: 7/1989, Emerson Park.
  • Standard template with new image to be added. Done.
  • Machine number range: 2000-5168.
  • Important: APTIS remains at two windows at Upminster and the single window at South Kenton. The South Kenton machine is not expected to be upgraded to Cubic FasTIS until mid-April 2007. This is all entirely WP:OR at the moment, of course, until I get some sources (has only been confirmed verbally by T/O clerks). South Kenton was removed before Upminster, despite previous expectations, and the c2c website confirms it with its story on 23/3/2007.
  • Technical support for APTIS ceases/ceased on a specific date: source held by me for this, but I can't remember the date.
  • The θ (magnetic stripe encoding) symbol.
  • Ticket stock list: sub-article, perhaps? - Being done on one of my user subpages.
  • Status codes - probably with a link to Concessionary fares on the British railway network
  • External links to the old-ish Prototype APTIS, APTIS and APTIS 2000 here

Thanks to contributors so far, who have prompted me into starting to work on this after having put it off for ages! Hassocks5489 13:16, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Some points about dates

In my travel ticket collection (i.e. excluding Season Tickets, Platform Tickets and so on), I have 18 APTIS tickets issued in 1986, including two issued at Tonbridge before the date (18 November 1986) mentioned in the article and cited in the January 1987 Railway Magazine:

  1. Gatwick Airport - Marden; machine 3315; Tonbridge window S03; ticket dated 10 November 1986
  2. York - Tonbridge; machine 3374; Tonbridge window S04 (formerly in the old Travel Centre); ticket dated 15 November 1986

I may have other pre-18th November tickets elsewhere in my collection; likewise with fellow collectors.

Similarly, "August 1985 - September 1987" for the date range of installation is not correct; these dates, mentioned in Modern Railways, must relate to the proposed timescale as laid down by British Rail in 1984/1985. As noted above, APTIS (and I am referring here to the service machines, not the prototypes) was not seen before November 1986, and I know (although can't provide citations yet) that the installation programme continued throughout the whole of 1987 and 1988.

I won't make any alterations at this stage, though, as I want to be able to find relevant sources first. Hassocks5489 18:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

The Jan 87 RM article has a picture of David Mitchell issuing the first ticket; there may be some journalistic licence or typo, by all means change the dates and provide a source. I accept you point about installation dates, RM gives details of the issue of the last Edmonton ticket - 29 July 1988, South Merton.Pyrotec
